Not I. My county recently said 65+, but the signup form wants me to certify that I’m 75+, which I’m not. So I registered on some sort of list, and yesterday I got a text that said I would be notified when it was my turn to make an appointment.

I would love to hear that people are getting it, instead of reading about wasted doses.

janbb's avatar

^^ If you want to try to get it faster, you might call and ask if there’s a mistake on the sign up form but I imagine you’re making so many phone calls already right now.

Jeruba's avatar

I did talk to someone about it. Right now I don’t remember who or where. I have two fresh notebooks going, one medical/general and one financial, and I’m trying to track everything I do, all the calls, all the arrangements, all the new sign-ins and follow-ups, all the urgent-attentions, but some stuff slips by. So if they come back to me, that’ll be fine.

I’m basically staying in and letting my sons go out, although that too has its perils.

canidmajor's avatar

I can’t even register yet (CT, over 65) so I am hunkering down and waiting. And, well, we have white-out conditions out there which has me hunkering anyway.

chyna's avatar

I have had my first one and will get the second one this Friday.
I live in WV.
I work in a hospital, but I’m not any where near patients, but the hospital wants all employees that want shots to get them.
WV seems to be doing well in getting the vaccine out efficiently and without long lines.

janbb's avatar

I got my first shot last Friday after getting an appointment online when they announced they were opening it up to over 65. Second one will be at the end of February. Here in New Jersey, there is not enough vaccine available to meet the demand and many friends are spending hours on the computer trying to get appointments. There is a state pre-registration site which nobody is hearing back from, a county site and several stand-alone agencies. It is like the Wild West. Since t here are no walk-ins or drive throughs as yet, I don’t think people are waiting on long lines although there are seven mega-sites and I don’t know what’s happening at them.

When I got to the agency giving me the shot it all went very smoothly and they were great about confirming online and setting the next appointment.

If anything else didn’t scream out the need for a national health plan, this crisis surely has!

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

Flu vaccine yes. Covid-19 not yet .

Hawaii_Jake's avatar

I have received both doses. I’m in Hawaii.

JLoon's avatar

I’m scheduled next month, based on volunteer work at the food bank.

KNOWITALL's avatar

Not been offered to me. Missouri.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

Over 65 in North Carolina first come – - first served.

First shot January 19th and scheduled for second one on February 10 at noon. Drive thru in my county. Vaccine is reserved for secon shot.

janbb's avatar

@KNOWITALL Are they vaccinating some groups in Missouri; just not down to your age yet?

KNOWITALL's avatar

@janbb Correct. Hardly anyone here has except healthcare workers, we have a ton of hospitals and clinics here.

kritiper's avatar

Not. But I am eligible now. Our state is only getting about 25,000 doses a week and there are 270,000 waiting, which will take about 13 weeks if all of those step up for the shot. Everybody is clamoring for a shot now and I’m resolved to be patient and maybe get mine by the middle of March when I have a doctor’s appt.

JLeslie's avatar

I’m too young, but I know a lot of people who have. My parents are due for their second shot tomorrow, we are crossing our fingers they allow my mom to have one, there are mixed messages. My parents had theirs done at Walter Reed in Maryland. I have friends in Maryland who have made appointments for their parents at a supermarket. I have friends in Michigan who have made appointments for their parents in Michigan. I have a friend who is very angry policemen were not put in the first category for vaccination, her husband is a detective in Toledo, Ohio.

My FIL received his first shot at work, he works for Publix supermarkets in the West Palm Beach, FL area.

Where I live in The Villages, Florida, I estimate about 20,000 Villagers have had their first shot. If you want to see what it is like here you can join the Facebook Group The Villages Covid19 Hub, even if you just want to read through for just a few minutes and then leave the group. Villagers on their help each other with how to sign up for appointments, what the different venues are like, and they even post when they are online at first come first serve locations to let people know how long the wait is if someone wants to drive over.

The sign-up for appointments is different in each county and then there are separate sign-ups for some of the private companies like Publix Supermarkets and another company. It is a little chaotic and frustrating, but getting better. Some of the websites have quirks and glitches and the facebook group members give each other with helpful hints.

Also, in the facebook group people post new information about covid and the vaccines. No politics allowed.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

@kritiper It will take a whole year because the two approved vaccines require two vaccinations.

Demosthenes's avatar

It’ll probably be a while before a healthy 29-year-old is allowed access to the vaccine. I know some people in town who have gotten it (all of them older) but no one in my family has yet.

Mama_Cakes's avatar

I’m from Canada. It looks as though I won’t be able get the vaccine until August. That’s when it’ll be given to the general population. So they say.

bob_'s avatar

Not me.

Hola from Mexico City.

chyna's avatar

Hi bob! Good to see you!
And good to see mama cakes!

janbb's avatar

@bob_ Hey – I made you a sandwich!

bob_'s avatar

Ladies * tips hat *

stanleybmanly's avatar

First shot a couple of weeks back. Next shot due on the wife’s birthday (the 16th). I’m in San Francisco.

bob_'s avatar

@stanleybmanly That’s the 16th of February, not her 16th birthday, right?

LuckyGuy's avatar

I’m still waiting.

kritiper's avatar

@Tropical_Willie I meant the +65ers. But my calculation did not take into account those who will not opt for the vaccine.

nikipedia's avatar

I have had 2 shots delivered to my left arm. Pfizer. I’m not a healthcare worker but I do research for a hospital and they ordered enough for every employee in the system.

misfit's avatar

I’m designated as group 1b in my state as a grocery worker. Our vaccinations begin March 1.

We had to fight for 1b.

JLeslie's avatar

@nikipedia Objectively, do you think your group that doesn’t interact with the public should have been before people who work in other industries who do work with the public? The advisory board to the CDC right after Pfizer was approved seemed to be separating out essential workers who actually interact with the public daily. There are administrative people in healthcare getting vaccinated before teachers and police officers in a lot of states. I’m very happy you’re vaccinated, and I don’t think you should have refused it for some sort of greater good, Every vaccinated person contributes to preventing the spread of the virus. I’m just talking about decisions being made at the governor level.

chyna's avatar

@JLeslie I know you didn’t address your question to me, but I’m going to answer for my situation. I have thought a lot about this myself. I’m not interacting with patients, however I do walk through the halls and get on the elevators that patients have been on. Also, we have a Covid surge unit two floors above me. The maintenance guy told me the air system on that floor is the same exchange as on my floor.
I chose to take the vaccine when it was offered for those reasons.
I hope that didn’t come off as excuses, because those are all things I considered before I signed up to get the shot.

canidmajor's avatar

@chyna I am glad you and @nikipedia got your shots. Considering the density of infection in hospitals, unless there is a pressure variant in play between offices and labs and wards, there will likely be an increased density of viral particles.

JLeslie's avatar

@chyna Again, I don’t fault anyone for taking the shot when it’s offered. I don’t think anyone should refuse it on some sort of idea that they should allow someone else to get vaccinated or some sort of thinking like that. That’s like not eating in America because people in Ethiopia are starving, things don’t work that way.

I have a friend who works in a separate building from the hospital who got her shot, because the hospital system was allotted the vaccines.

Right now a lot of people want to be in the first phases and deciding who is most deserving is difficult. The experts agree it’s a difficult decision. What that means is all decisions mean a deserving group is asked to wait.

stanleybmanly's avatar

My wife and her best friend went yesterday to a place where they were supposedly appointed to be vaccinated, and were turned back. Like this thread, that set me to thinking that had she just been with me, she too might have been whisked into that huge EMPTY room. I wish I had snapped some pictures. I am really curious as to the state of that room NOW, and won’t forget the camera when I go back.

nikipedia's avatar

@JLeslie good questions. I think the goal should be shots in arms, period, and the only thing the government should be concerned about is accelerating production and delivery. Delays increase opportunities for mutations that escape the current vaccines, and then we have to start back at the beginning in an infinite loop. The only solution is shots in arms as quickly as possible. Anyone who can take a vaccine should get it. Even if you aren’t personally high-risk you could be the person who spreads the virus to someone who is.

I say that objectively but personally my group does work with the public; we work with human research subjects who are high-risk. We also do our work in a hospital with a high census of COVID patients (our area has been a recent epicenter).

JLeslie's avatar

@nikipedia Thanks for answering. If you read above I too think no one should refuse if offered.

There are people getting shots because they are in the right place at the right time and a pharmacy or supermarket has doses left in a vial and ask a customer walking by to finish the vial instead of throwing it out. I don’t care how old that stray person was, better to vaccinate then throw it out. Most stories like this the stores are vaccinating older people who were technically eligible.

I have no anger regarding the decisions made, because I think they are hard decisions and I also think it is IMPOSSIBLE to do it perfectly, so people should not be too critical, but rather if there are difficulties getting the shots in the arms in some places, come up with solutions that will be helpful. Here in Florida it started a little rough in some counties, but it is getting better and better.

I didn’t realize you work with the public, so then of course you should be a priority.

It’s great to see you back! I hope you stick around.

chyna's avatar

Got my second one today. Pfizer.

flutherother's avatar

I’m in the UK and got my first Pfizer jab last Monday. I expect to get my second in the next couple of weeks. I’ll get a letter from the local health board advising me of the date and time.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

Second shot; less than a half hour from driving car in line and leaving, that included the 15 minute waiting period. 110 volunteers (mostly high school students), police, sheriffs, healthcare workers and health department.

Last time they did 2200 shots in less than 7 hours.

North Carolina still over 65.

LuckyGuy's avatar

Still waiting to make an appointment. All slots are full.

JLeslie's avatar

@LuckyGuy Do you have any first come first serve locations up there? Go in the early afternoon if you do. Everyone rushes to line up at 6:00am. People are so predictable.

canidmajor's avatar

I got an appointment for first stick on Monday. :-)

Jeruba's avatar

I just got a first appointment for this Sunday, and a second one four weeks later. Signed up as soon as I saw the news that my pharmacy chain is the provider.

The signup window stayed up, refreshing every 30 seconds, for more than 3 hours before my turn came, but it did come.

KNOWITALL's avatar

My mom thats 68 and on chemo hasnt been offered one. On her primary docs list.
A lot of people here are upset at the governor. And supposedly some were stolen, hearsay.

janbb's avatar

@KNOWITALL I don’t know how it is in your state but here in NJ you have to be pretty assertive yourself to get an appointment once you are eligible. The state pre-registration site has been fairly useless and people are scrambling to sign up with other health providers.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@janbb Yes, half here would claw your eyes out to get it, half are anti-vaxx or apathetic.

I just think seniors should be close to the top based on death stats. And of course healthcare workers.

janbb's avatar

@KNOWITALL Seniors are at the top here too with some other groups and my point is that the seniors have had to be assertive to find appointments and can’t wait to be tapped. That meant for many getting on a number of providers’ wait lists and then checking online frequently.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@janbb Ohhh okay, gotcha. I’ll work on that!

janbb's avatar

^^ Good

Jeruba's avatar

In my area, a real hotspot, there were of course notices telling us not to sign up with more than one registry because we’d be notified when our turn came and we shouldn’t be occupying a position in several lines. Right, good luck with that.

Given my back problems, I couldn’t even walk from a big parking lot to a sports arena now, never mind standing in a long line. Going to my local drugstore is a thousand times better.

stanleybmanly's avatar

I’m shocked at the variance in vaccinations for my peers. There’s a couple I know that I thought had excellent health coverage through Sutter Health They’re both 69 years old with appointments to be vaccinated late in March! I told them that’s ridiculous. The city will vaccinate seniors in their cars at the City College parking lot with appointment times of less than a week.

JLeslie's avatar

@KNOWITALL In Florida people in cancer treatment or transplant patients, they are getting vaccinated at their treatment centers. Is your mom offered it from her regular GP? None of the GP’s have the vaccine here from what I can tell.

Jeruba's avatar

Got the first shot, Moderna. Bit of a wait, but minimal hassle. I think the pharmacy did a great job, efficient, orderly, and smooth. Four more weeks and then #2. Fingers crossed that it’s enough.

LuckyGuy's avatar

I have an appointment for my first on Feb 28.

tedibear's avatar

Ohio just entered their version of phase two and I’m still not eligible. I’m 56, I work in retail – though with low customer contact – and my workplace just had another employee test positive. He came to work with symptoms but assumed it was a cold. The branch was closed for three days. What makes me mad is this guy could have stayed home to work! He comes in because his family irritates him and they are all home.

JLeslie's avatar

WHY do people want to give their friends at work a cold? And, why do people think cold symptoms are t sick enough to be COVID if we spent a year being told you can be a symptomatic altogether, and literally the Mayor of Miami and Atlanta both were on TV telling the entire country they just had cold symptoms when they had COVID. Drives me crazy.

tedibear's avatar

@JLeslie – I agree with you wholeheartedly. My manager ended up out for two weeks because of this guy.

On a happier note, I am now eligible for the vaccine and am appointment searching like a mad woman. There is also a chance of getting the J&J vaccine from a doctor in my office building. She is offering Friday appointments to eligible people in our building if she has vaccines not used by her current eligible patients. Keep your paws crossed for me!

tedibear's avatar

After pre-registering in four places, I finally got a time slot. Had my first dose of Pfizer on Thursday, March 25th. Second one scheduled for Thursday, April 15.

canidmajor's avatar

Been a while since I saw this Q. Second shot two weeks ago, I am pretty well protected. :-)

LuckyGuy's avatar

I got my second Pfizer on 3/26.

JLeslie's avatar

@LuckyGuy I’m tentatively putting July 4th on my calendar. My second shot is April 12th.

KNOWITALL's avatar

Under 50 and still not available to me. I think I’m in the next phase though, I checked last week after talking to my doctor at my annual. (By the way, he’s very Republican and got his.)

JLeslie's avatar

@KNOWITALL If you are anxious to get it ask your local Walmart if they are doing a Vaccine Waste Avoidance list. They call you if they have extra vaccine during the day. It seems this might vary by state, I am not sure, but here any age can get waste avoidance shots and the Walmart pharmacy are doing an awesome job calling people on the lists. You have to be able to get to the store within a half an hour, so only try at the stores near you. I actually was given three hours warning, but sometimes it is much less. Possibly, other pharmacies are doing it too, but here I only know about Walmart for sure.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@JLeslie I’m not anxious but I do want it over with. Next week we all are eligible in my state so I’m sure it’ll be soon.

kritiper's avatar

I received my second dose on April 2.

raum's avatar

Waiting to be eligible on April 15th. :)

KNOWITALL's avatar

I FINALLY got an appointment for April 22nd. Moderna.

chyna's avatar

^About time!

Brian1946's avatar

I got my first Pfizer on March 31.
My second will be on April 21.
I’ll be fully immunized on May 5.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@chyna At least my mom got her two, I guess the tiers did work for our seniors.
Plus mom got Moderna and had almost zero immune response (immune system is shot from chemo) so I’m hoping it doesnt kick my butt.

JLeslie's avatar

@KNOWITALL I was wondering about that with cancer patients and others on immunosuppressants. There was a relatively small study done regarding age and the Pfizer vaccine and 30% of the people over 80 years old in the study didn’t build up any neutralizing antibodies after being vaccinated. I would take for granted the response is the same for Moderna. The study was age related not cancer treatment related. Still, it has to do with immune response.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@JLeslie I read that the better your immune system the worse your reaction in most cases. I rarely get sick, maybe once in five years, so I’m a little nervous.

JLeslie's avatar

@KNOWITALL Here is the official insert. from the trials. Page 13 of the PDF has side effects ages 18–65. The next data set is over 65. Younger people do have more side effects, but the majority of people don’t have extreme side effects, so there is every reason to think you will be fine.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@JLeslie I’m sure I’ll be fine, I’m just a big scaredy cat about needles haha! Thanks though!

I’m going to take a pic for social media since everyone knows I lean right, too, and post my physical reactions.

My husband is getting the J&J today at a mass vax event on campus.

janbb's avatar

@KNOWITALL FWIW, The shot itself is very unpainful; they use a very small needle. And I am inoculation phobic as well. I did have a flu-like reaction to the second Moderna for about 36 hours but it was nothing compared to what Covid sounds like!

KNOWITALL's avatar

@janbb Anything that keeps me out of the hospital is worth it, for sure!
I also want to be a good example in my very red state because so many are refusing it.

janbb's avatar

@KNOWITALL Yay you!! That’s great.

JLeslie's avatar

@KNOWITALL Meghan McCain on The View asked the Surgeon General the other day how the government is going to reach male Republicans who seem to be the most resistant to getting the shot of any other group. I don’t remember his full answer, but he said he believed the messenger really matters, and they are organizing athletes, celebrities, and others who will hopefully influence the people who are resistant to getting vaccinated. I think he meant it more broadly than Meghan, meaning not just Republican men, but also young people and maybe minorities too. Although, from what I have heard minorities are not as resistant as they feared. I think it is great you will help promote it since people know you well in your town.

My friend’s husband is in ICU fighting for his life. In his 50’s.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@JLeslie We are a hard bunch when it comes to trusting science and doctors or any outsiders sometimes, so I figure we all need to post, especially Republicans.

JLeslie's avatar

@KNOWITALL I find it a little surprising, it seems like there was shift. Years ago I think the people more likely to question western medicine were very liberal, green, tree hugger types. The anti-vax really took hold of the right wing though, they zeroed in on that group, especially with the HPV vaccine they had a big opening that the Christian Right latched onto. Most Republicans I know are not anti-science, I always disliked that term.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@JLeslie Now you know why we are the Show-Me State.

The HPV thing is a little different, because you can’t get HPV without having intercourse. So all the parents who believe their little angels are pure as snow, were up in arms.

tedibear's avatar

As much as I am ready for my second shot, I’m also prepared for side-effects. I am taking off work the day after. If I have the flu-like symptoms, I can hang out on my couch. If nothing happens, I get a day off.

For the record, you can get HPV without having intercourse. That’s the most likely way, but you can get it via oral sex, too.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@tedibear You’re right, just googled. My apologies! :)

tedibear's avatar

@KNOWITALL – It’s all good. I can’t imagine the holier-than-thou crowd being thrilled about their kids partaking in any version of sex.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@tedibear Exactly right. There’s a point between ‘letting them enjoy childhood’ and sending them out to college prepared for the real world.

LuckyGuy's avatar

I got my second Pfizer shot on 3/26 and my second Shingrex vaccine today. I’m all caught up!

Here is a brilliant SNL video on the subject: Boomers Got The Vax .
Enjoy!

KNOWITALL's avatar

First Moderna done today. I’m posting on my socials to encourage others. :)

janbb's avatar

@KNOWITALL Good for you!

JLeslie's avatar

I wrote a central Florida reporter I have had contact with before to investigate/report on “Trumper red Republican loving” The Villages has had covid cases consistently decreasing even immediately following Spring Break, while the rest of Florida is going up in cases, most likely because we are one of the most vaccinated cities in Florida per capita. Estimating 60–70% now, but can’t be sure. 3–4 covid cases a day now for the past two weeks. I can’t know for sure if there is causation, but hard to ignore the correlation.

Hundreds of people gather together every night in crowds outside no masks here. Indoor exercise classes with 50 in a room no masks. Restaurants open. Vaccinated people more and more are going back to normal routines.

I have one other reporter to contact, but he is local to our community and probably the story would have no chance of getting picked up nationally.
