Speaking of racial conflict, can horses and zebras interbreed?

Asked by stanleybmanly (24153points) June 27th, 2021 from iPhone

Why do you suppose zebras have been “segregated” to the African “ghetto”, while the horses graze the prime (and predator free) grasslands of the world?

Yes, they can.
They (zebra’s) can mate with any kind of equine.
Zebroids is what you get.
A horbra, or a zorse.

They can but their offspring are sterile.

This question is full of strange judgements upon the animal world and it doesn’t make sense.

You find the concept of animal miscegenation objectionable? I’m open to the argument that it is a concept ONLY applicable to us as humans. Why is that?

Zaku's avatar

You’re conflating human ethnicities (same species) with animal species, aren’t you, as well as the continent of Africa with a ghetto, etc. Yeah, I agree with @sorry here – the details text is atrocious nonsense.

@stanleybmanly ‘race’ is a social construct. Created my humans. Throwing around anthropomorphic comparisons isn’t relevant. In animals there are different species. Humans are one species. You’re trying to lay comparisons between two very different things and even using terminology like ‘ghetto’ to describe a species of animal’s natural habitat.

They just make love and screw politics.

We’re the dumb animals ;)

Don’t know about animals but people are people, who gives a crap? A woman is a woman. I never gave a flip what flavor they are. Race is a divisive and bull shit concept anyway.

@sorry thanks for the tips. I’ll try to remember them.

They can, and have.

Would it also help to point out that humans have Neanderthal DNA? We did some inter-species mixing as well, at different times over history, when there were other human like species on the planet. Horses and donkeys have been successfully domesticated, so where humans have gone, they have taken horses and donkeys with them, creating populations where there weren’t before and breeding them to create types for different characteristics and putting them to work. I’m trying really hard to make sense of your question/statement, but calling the savannah of Africa a ‘ghetto’ is truly beyond reason.

Don’t take it so seriously. I’m not out to offend either the zebras nor the continent. Personally, I am fully aware that zebras are not exactly slum animals. It had not occurred to me that they might monitor this site for any hint of slight or insult. I commend your vigilance toward the elevation and preservation of zebra dignity and heritage and look forward to your upcoming commendation from whichever organization strives mightily to counter the animals’ defamation at the behest of zebra bigots such as myself. Well done!

When I don’t take a question seriously and write a flippant answer, the mods swoop in and remove it. Even from ‘social’, so this game is just confusing me more. I thought we were meant to be using our brains, with logic and reason, but I can’t quite understand when we’re trying to be silly and when we’re trying to be serious. Frankly, some of the questions and responses I thought were silly, were written in earnest, and my answer was ‘wrong’ and I was told I was rude and removed for everything from ‘being off topic’ to ‘unhelpful’ or ‘personal attack’. Does anyone keep track of how many of their answers get removed? Is there a prize for the most removed? /s

@sorry It just takes a while to get the feel of the place and to know some people’s quirks. I knew stan’s Q was an odd attempt at humor.

Personal attacks are pretty much not tolerated though wherever they appear.

Dutchess_III's avatar

@sorry…. it runs hot and cold around here. I certainly haven’t kept track of how many times I’ve been killed off. But it been lots.

Nomore_lockout's avatar

@sorry I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, things like that happen. But this place is chill pill ville compared to the old Y!A answers. They were hard over there, particularly if certain posters got butt hurt over your political views. I just roll with the flow. The mods have a duty to do of course, but in my view they are pretty mild and permissive.
