Do you prefer fruit pie warm and runny or cooler and more congealed?

Asked by janbb (62858points) August 17th, 2021

My book club is meeting here for dinner tonight and I’m baking off a peach pie I made that’s frozen unbaked. I’m trying to decide how soon to bake it. Help me out?

Depends. If there is vanilla ice cream available that I can scoop on top, I definitely prefer warm. If it’s to be consumed sans-ice cream, I prefer cooler (room temp).

@product Good to see you and yes there will be ice cream to scoop..

Warm with ice cream please.

janbb's avatar

^^ Of course, if I bake it too soon, it might be too hard to resist!

@canidmajor has the only correct answer to your quandary.

Apple and Blueberry pies warm from the oven with ice cream.

All others, cold with whip cream.

Warm but not too runny.

Warm and not congealed.

It is a fruit pie so it is acceptable to be a bit runny.

Also it is the one time you are allowed to lick the plate clean.

@janbb what book are you reviewing? My book group is next week and we are reading “Humankind: A hopeful history” by Rutger Bregman. Two thumbs up!!

@Forever_Free Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell

Pie is in the oven now because the kitchen will need to cool down before company comes. So it will probably be warmish but not very and not very congealed because I like the fruit to sing.

Now I want pie.

chyna's avatar

Fruit sings?

flutherother's avatar

Just warm and quite solid and congealed and served with custard.

ragingloli's avatar

I love when things are warm and runny.

janbb's avatar

@ragingloli Ooh – you sexy beast!

ragingloli's avatar

What a dirty mind. I was talking about molten chocolate and runny egg yolks.

And here I was trying to flirt with you for the first time in 11 years! :-)

Warm, with melting vanilla ice cream on top. Can’t beat it with a stick.

So, @janbb, tell us of the resolution of this conundrum!

janbb's avatar

It was pretty much room temp by the time I served it; the ice cream was soft and melty.

Warm and runny.
Sort of like asking if you like a hot fudge sundae after the hot fudge gets cold

@TJFKAJ Good analogy!
