Has the costs of the Coronavirus pandemic exceeded the cost of the subprime mortgage crisis?

Asked by Ltryptophan (12091points) August 23rd, 2021 from iPhone

Looking over the costs it seems like these are currently about the same price point.

Is there a current figure on the overall costs in US dollars to the economy in America?

You must think this is a question lamenting the cost.

In reality, my thinking is we made such a big deal about the sub prime mortgage crisis, but this is a much more dire situation. Sure, the loss of life is horrific and makes these matters apples and oranges, but I figure it there’s an important take away: we could help the country invest in housing.

Maybe helping people get access to special mortgages could help our country survive this crisis in the long run.
