What type of organizing personality are you?

Asked by JLeslie (65418points) August 24th, 2021 from iPhone

I watched a few episodes of Hot Mess House and knew I was a LadyBug. Here’s the website https://www.hgtv.com/shows/hot-mess-house

Here’s the quiz to find out what type of clutterbug you are. https://clutterbug.me/what-clutterbug-are-you-test

The host of the show argues that if you don’t have your house set up in your organizing style you won’t use whatever system is in place and you wind up with a mess. I completely agree with this.

She looks at parts of your house that you do keep neat along with Q&A to help learn your style.

Even if you are very neat and organized it can still be fun to take the quiz.

About 20 years ago I hired someone to help me organize my office, bathroom, and closet, and it was life changing. That’s when I first figured out my organizing style.

@rebbel: Hi, Professor! Remember me? Large Dog? You were my thesis advisor when I got my Masters in House and Workplace Entropy! Nice to see you!

Were you not making a mess always, @canidmajor?

@flutherother Did we just become best friends? -Step Brothers quote. :D

I remade my bedroom into a feng shui Japanese room with bamboo sleeping mat at age 16. Beat that.My mom thought I was certifiable, but she’s a clutter bug. (Shudder)

Yup, besties.

Interesting, but I don’t think my results could mean anything. For most of those questions, my real answer would have to be none of the above. For instance, bold and bright colors vs neutral—nope, neither. How about deep and rich colors and calm tones, but definitely not neutral? I could not find myself in those choices.

Great article and quiz!!

I’m a Cricket. Yep!

Love visual simplicity and organizational abundance. You prefer your everyday items out of sight, but you are a bit of a perfectionist and a very detail oriented person.

Thanks for participating everyone.

I’m a little like a Bee or Butterfly in that I’m visual and like to see everything, I just like it behind a closet door usually. When she suggests baskets and boxes for ladybugs to organize a closet I’m always thinking it should be a clear container so I can see what’s in it. I organize my hanging clothes in categories short sleeve light to dark left to right, long sleeve light to dark, dresses light to dark, etc. I would love to hang up almost everything as long as it doesn’t get damaged. If I had a huge dressing room I would hang my gym clothes, bathing suits, t-shirts, like a store.

I also have piles of papers that I need to go through. I am nervous about out of sight out of mind and it means to me hard to find. Not piles up to the ceiling, but let’s say 3–4 piles of paper 3–4 inches high each are always somewhere needing attention.

It says I’m a Bee, but I also feel like I’m a Ladybug. Thanks for this link. I think it may actually help me get and stay organized.

@smudges If you watch a few episodes I found that helpful. She usually organizes for two different families each episode. Some I really related to and some were so different than me it wasn’t much help. If you have an SO or kids the shows can help to understand their organizing style too.
