Can a screenshot's date be changed?

I found a screenshot on my BF’s laptop named “Screenshot_20210131_04..”. Was it taken on that date? My BF claims it’s the date he transferred his pics from the phone to the laptop. Is it possible the date changed or is he lying?

That would be the date that the computer’s clock was set to when the screenshot was taken… unless the file was renamed, or unless there’s a bug involved. I have seen some bugs with the dates put on various pictures. It doesn’t sound like you’re even looking at the EXIF data – just the filename, which yes, can be easily changed. Changing the EXIF data is also possible, but requires a little bit more knowledge.
