Would you care to guess who wrote the following?

Asked by ragingloli (51966points) November 4th, 2021

Dear bottle of red wine.
You have experienced much. Deep inside the bottle sits a man.
You are a good listener. You have no words, no opinion, no thoughts.
With you, I can talk about anything. I tell you, what I think. What moves me. What occupies my thoughts. What depresses me. What gnaws at me.
You do not make it difficult. You just ease my burden.
You are my friend.

Joe Biden when he confused his Geritol with a bottle of wine?

I’m pretty sure it was Donald J Trump after Melania said you slept with the slut (Stormy Daniels) ! !

Charles Bukowski

Really off the wall but my first thought was UB40’s Red Red Wine; not the Neil Diamond version. Love that song! Just found out Brian Travers died in August from brain cancer, age 62

Winner @janbb !

I think…

But maybe Jesus.

Or the Beatles.

Could be Plato.

I can’t decide.

Wine might help.

I can’t think of anyone. But I do have the UB40 version of Red Red Wine stuck in my head now.

@Tropical_Willie It might have been. Hard to say.

“Wine brings to light the hidden secrets of the soul, gives being to our hopes, bids the coward flight, drives dull care away, and teaches new means for the accomplishment of our wishes.”—- Horace

“I have enjoyed great health at a great age because everyday since I can remember, I have consumed a bottle of wine except when I have not felt well. Then I have consumed two bottles.”—- Attributed to a Bishop of Seville

Sounds like something I would say to an empty bottle.

I think @ragingloli wrote it. Whomever did, it’s quite good. It’s how I felt about alcohol for many years. Now I know that ‘friend’ was a devil in disguise, luring me daily with promises unkept; not revealing a life wasted until it was already gone.

It was written by an AI, trained on the ramblings of German tabloid writer Franz Josef Wagner.

How interesting!

People say when AI takes over all of the work drudgery that humanity will have a renaissance of art. Not the case, AI will be better at that also.

Interesting. I felt like saying “Goethe” just for the hell of it, because I felt pretty sure that it originated with a German writer. It’s that telltale comma in “I tell you, what I think.” that signals the German subordinate clause. But I didn’t think of an AI. Nice trick question, @ragingloli.

I was going to just guess Louis Pasteur for funsies. (First non-author who loves wine that came to mind.)

Based off the way the question is framed and OP, I was going to guess not a famous author.

Loli doesn’t strike me as someone who is going to quiz us about literary quotes.

When Loli posts seemingly normal questions, I think my brain gets paranoid. It’s a trick question! :P

@ragingloli, did you do the translating?

Jeruba's avatar

Well, then.

flutherother's avatar

“Deep inside the bottle sits a man” is quite good. I wouldn’t have thought a machine could write that. It is also curious as that sentence doesn’t seem to fit with the rest of the text.

smudges's avatar

That’s cool…and freakin’ scary.

Jeruba's avatar

@flutherother, I agree. Translators have a lot of leeway in rendering the meaning of something. The English version is @ragingloli‘s words, so I’d say s/he is the creative person behind that phrasing.

@ragingloli, are you also by any chance responsible for the AI and/or its training?
