Are states curvy?

Asked by Ltryptophan (12091points) November 8th, 2021 from iPhone

If you could get a feel for a smoothed out even bottom of a states land mass as it follows Earth’s curvature, would it be sort of noticeably convex, or more almost flat.

Take Texas for instance, since it is huge and almost kinda square.

How about if you scaled up to the entire US?

Yes, Texas is curvy. Fondle a globe some time, and you can feel for yourself.

Keep scaling up and you’ll end up with a (curved) globe.

It’s kind of hard to understand what you’re asking. If you’re interested in how qualitatively noticeable the curvature of the Earth is, you might enjoy this part of a really interesting video where he shows the curve of the earth in real-time as he pans the the camera up and down. It’s a pretty amazing shot.

Are you talking about the top or the sides? Here in Idaho they’re both about the same.

Ohio is high in the middle and round on both sides.
