How many sets of identical twins have you known?--that is, you actually knew both of them.

Asked by Jeruba (55827points) December 11th, 2021

What stands out about them in your mind?

How about triplets or other multiples?

Want to tell us their first names?

Conceptual bonus points if you are a twin.

Two of my fifth grade classmates were twins. To be honest I don’t know much about them because it was a long time ago and I wasn’t their friend. The only thing I know is that they were very close to each other and the “younger” acted like the younger in the family. I remember speaking to them once. They were nice people. I wish I had known them more.

Ton and Ben (Ben and Ton, sounds as Benetton, I only now realise…)
They were both my friends (in childhood), both had some anger in them, also towards each other.
Both were quite proficient in the game of soccer.
I was fond of them.
Wow, I even remember their birth date, and telephone number (after 40 – 45 years)!
-

Then, one street down of them (their back yards touched), there were girl twins, which I can’t remember the names of (Marinka/Katinka, and…....?).
I didn’t play with them, and I can’t recall characteristics.
-

For the bonus: I’m a Gemini.
-
My mom to the rescue; the girl twins’ names were Erica and Alineke!

Linda and Lisa lived two streets over from me. We met in Kindergarten and we’re friends through sixth grade. They went to the same middle school and high school as well, but we weren’t friends any more. I just saw them around. Last time I saw them was at our 20th HS reunion (which was over ten years ago).

I was friendly with Brendan and Brian in High School. We swam in the same circles and had mutual friends.

My daughter went to elementary school with Nick and Justin. They were in the same class together for a number of years.

There was also a set of triplets in her classes in middle school. They weren’t identical though.

Two sets – both male, both when I was in elementary and junior high.

(1) Gary and Neil (2) Alan and Michael

I have known many sets of brother/sister twins.

I have identical girl twins. They love being identical and now that they’re married they are looking forward to getting together and seeing if their husbands will recognize them!

They have always loved looking the same.

They are still closely connected even though there is an ocean that separates them. If one girl is reading while traveling in the car, her twin sister will get carsick. This is gone on for decades, and no amount of distance seems to affect it.

I have known two sets of twins. One was in junior high and high school. They seemed fairly different from each other. Their names were Laurie and Lynn.
The second set I did theater with. They were two little girls. They were also fairly different.
Their names are Madelyn and Andrea. But they called them Madi and Andie.

2. Debbie and Denise traded off being our baby-sitters when I still needed one. And Jason and Jared…my Ident twins.

What stuck out about Debbie and Denise? That they looked alike! I was too young to know if they acted alike of if there were other factors of “twinness”.

J & J I’m glad they turned out to be excellent young men because growing up, they were TOO close in looks, thinking, humor, intelligence, etc. They would even get uncomfortable when they were separated for too long. A real life example of their abilities: When they were newborns, Jason would sleep on his right side with his left two fingers (index/middle) tucked into his mouth. Jared would be laying on his left side with the same two fingers of his right hand tucked into his mouth. As if on cue, Jason would roll over to his left side, moving to the other fingers and Jared would roll to his right side, likewise swapping fingers. All while they were sound asleep. ANOTHER: Before they could they would, like most babies, babble. You’ve all heard it…nonsensical noises in gross imitation of what they are hearing around them. One day, while they were playing on their play mat, Jared said “blah, bler bib blah”.
Jason answered “blah blah berb” And they both started laughing like they had just shared a joke. Had they used their powers for the forces of evil they might have taken over the world already

I have known a few. A couple of sets in high school were interesting . Paul and Pierre were so close they finished each other’s sentences. Kim and Karen took different classes, like different things, to the point Kim went with Jim Jones to Guyana and died there.

I met some twins at a rehearsal dinner for a friend’s wedding. After the wedding, the bride later told me, “my cousin really liked you, was wondering if you were single.”

So I asked Bernadette out, and we dated a few months. The next time I saw the bride, she said, “I am surprised you went out with Bernadette, Adrian was the one that liked you.”

Those two seemed telepathic in their actions. Adrian mentioned nursing school, and the next day found out Bernadette had started at nursing school the week before. Those kinds of things happened all the time.

I can think of only one set of identical twins I knew personally. I went to school with them from elementary through high school. Their names were Chris and Matt. They were quite different from each other and moved in different crowds, despite looking similar (but they never dressed the same or did anything gimmicky like that). I also knew two sets of fraternal twins and I am a fraternal twin myself (with a lifetime of being thought to be younger than my brother because he was always taller and bigger. Which also affected one of the sets of fraternal twins I knew: two brothers, one tall and muscular and on sports teams, the other shorter, skinnier, and smaller. Both were in my Latin class though).

There were a couple sets of identical twins in my high school class. One set were notable here. One appeared on Broadway, the other ran a hotel in Utah, I think.

Just one set, years ago when we lived in El Paso. Always got pissed at me because I was calling them by the wrong name all the time. We all went to the same school as well and lived on the same block. My bad, but they were duplicate copies, so no kidding about “identical.” And they wore the same make up and wore their hair long and in the same style. So I mean, WTF? Think one was named Debbie, the other name escapes me now.

My sisters are identical twins. It was interesting growing up watching their relationship mature. They were fiercely competitive with each other but always had each other’s back. They worked hard to “do their own thing” but both usually ended up doing the same things anyway. As adults they’re both professional musicians and both quit the local symphony to teach. There are many other parallels.

Megan and Maria, Dan and Sam, KoDee and KamBree, Lisa and Laura, Cody and Brett were my students. Tucker and Trinity are cousins once removed. Three of the sets I can only tell apart when they are next to each other.

Leon and Leo were twins in one of my grade school classes. They were both shy, handsome guys. What I remember most is that one of them fell off of the top bunk and broke his collarbone.

Interesting fact: how many of you know that fraternal twins can have different fathers? That’s why you might have seen pics of the twins – one who is black, one is white.

One set of identical twins, and one set of identical triplets in high school. One set of identical twins in college.

What stands out for me about the high school people is they were very musically inclined. The twins played violin. The triplets played trumpet, trombone, and saxophone. Each one took lessons on one instrument, then taught each other what they had learned. By high school, they were all proficient on each instrument. I’m sure they had help from family as the parents and siblings were all accomplished musicians and/or singers.

I grew up with identical twins named Ronnie and Donnie. I never knew which one I was talking to. I worked with identical twins named Gloria and Doria in my very first job. I have known a lot of fraternal twins through life. I know a couple who have two sets of them. I thanked God for only giving me one baby at a time. Seriously.

Oh yes, @snowberry. You remind me that I just forgot those lovely twins :)

They like to play this game of exchanging each other’s identity toward strangers, and they take a lot of joy in seeing strangers confusing one for the other. They also seem to exchange personalities from my observation. For instance, one used to have a high-pitched voice and the other lower, but recently the voice is shifting.

I’m more close to one of them, and she is a great friend :)

My immediate family is full of them.
My Mom and her sister (Jane and Jean)
My Dad’s twin sisters (my Aunts Annette and Mary)
Cousins Tommy and Chuck
Nieces Ella and Maddy
Nieces Meghan and Katelyn
Grand Nieces Harriet and Clara

They all tried to pass as the other one as a joke.

My daughter has friends who are twins. They are almost 15 and they’re both very different in temperament. One has anxiety and is always chastising the other one. The other one is more fun loving.

I used to work with a twin and her sister worked in the other office. I didn’t know both of them really well and that was over 30 years ago. I went to school with two twins, Julie and Jolie which I think are great names but I didn’t know them so I can’t comment on their personalities.

rockfan's avatar

I’m an identical twin, and in my senior class I knew three sets of twins. And I felt especially bad that I couldn’t tell any of them apart lol. They all seemed to be into the same things.

Nomore_lockout's avatar

@rockfan Glad to hear that! I always felt like an idiot because I could never tell those girls one from another. Even though we would all hang out after school often. But it really is hard to get it straight. Now I know I’m not the only one ; )
