How's the weather where you are?

Asked by Hawaii_Jake (37339points) February 1st, 2022

It’s early morning here on Oahu on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. The dark sky is clear, and it’s 69°F or 20.5°C.

I have to go into the office today instead of remotely working from home. I’ll take leftover yakisoba for lunch. Tonight, I’ll have a simple dinner. Maybe just an apple with peanut butter.

How’s the weather where you are? What are you up to today? What’s cooking?

It was 7°F when I left for work this morning, which is an improvement from yesterday’s -1°F. It’s currently a balmy 23°F, however (in MA).

At 07:30 am today it’s a comfortable 35*F, 88% humidity with 3 mph wind speed here in Tacoma. Beautiful mild mid-winter weather. Should warm up into the mid 40’s degrees F later. Great weather to do anything in the out of doors. Going canoe paddling at noon time.

janbb's avatar

It’s about 28F here now and supposed to get up to 35; the warmest it’s been in about four days. I’m about to go out of the house for the first time since the weekend to do some food shopping and may take a walk later. Still lots of snow and ice around.

zenvelo's avatar

It’s 34 degrees F in Lafayette CA, which is bitter cold for us. But I can see the sunlight hitting the hills as day breaks.

To celebrate the Lunar New Year, I will have takeout from the local Chinese restaurant. They are givng out red envelopes with every order. Some have a coupon for an appetizer, one has a gift card worth $500.

Nomore_Tantrums's avatar

55F and partly cloudy in CenTex. But the bottom falls out tomorrow, winter weather advisory in effect next two days. Typical of Texas. Warm one day, cold as the Arctic the next.

Nomore_Tantrums's avatar

Oh, and we are having beef stew tonight. Before we turn into MacMurdo Station.

flutherother's avatar

It has been very windy today and unusually mild at 48F. The skies are grey with rapidly moving clouds and the local Chinese take away is closed for Chinese New Year so I’ll have to change my plans for tea tonight.

29 and sunny here in Reno. Typical winter temperatures. Unfortunately very dry and no sign of rain or snow for the next several weeks here or anywhere in California either. Looks like it will be another year of drought after such a hopeful start to the wet season.

75, 35% humidity, partly sunny

Florida

Show off….
It is sunny and just above freezing. but we have 14 inches of snow still on the ground and a weather advisory for a big storm in about 36–48 hours.
My snowblower is ready.

As a whole seems to be cooling this past decade or so.

53* F in Eastern North Carolina – - 4:45 PM.

Sunny with a few clouds.

Dutchess_III's avatar

It’s freakin cold and getting colder!

Brian1946's avatar

It’s 61º F here in the Los Angeles area at 3:27 PM.
The forecast for tomorrow morning’s low is 40º.
No precipitation is predicted for the next week.

@kruger_d

Do you live in Minnesota?

kruger_d's avatar

@Brian1946
I do. We’ve had quite a few nights in the -20’s in January.

JLeslie's avatar

It was very cold a couple of nights ago, 28 degrees, with day time highs in the 50’s. Some people were freaking out thinking pipes were going to burst. I think they thought they were in Texas.

It’s warming up gradually. Should be back in the 70’s tomorrow, and then 80’s for a couple days, then back to 70’s.

Jeruba's avatar

We’ve had a dry month here in the South Bay after getting a decent start on rainfall in December, so we’re still worried about drought. It’s chilly, though: nighttime temperatures in the thirties (F), which is cold for this area. My house is pretty light on insulation, so I’m using a lot of heat, and paying plenty for it. Daytime is pleasant, in the sixties, mostly clear and sunny after the typical morning overcast burns off.

My brother just outside Boston just got whalloped by the storm you all heard or read about. Thinking about that as I consider the idea of moving back east.

raum's avatar

It’s mid to high 50’s. Sunny, crisp and clear. Except it’s crazy dry. My eyeballs feel about one size smaller. (Eyeballs totally come in sizes, right?) And my 9yo has been entertaining himself by zapping me repeatedly.

Yay, the joys of static electricity.

GET MILK AND POTATOES LUCKY GUY!!!

janbb's avatar

Sounds about like last Friday/Saturday around here.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Cato just did a zoom zoom in the snow.

Jeruba's avatar

@LuckyGuy, Buffalo? Why didn’t you say so? A lot of weather there, I hear: the “lake effect.” I sure hope your power stays on.

LuckyGuy's avatar

@Jeruba. I live just off the lake, west of Rochester. We get a lot of lake effect snow.
The local weather folks call it “lake flakes” as in, “There’ll be plenty of lake flakes tonight south of Lake Ontario.” If we lose power I will fire up a generator . If that doesn’t work or a neighbor needs one I will fire up the second generator.
My battery backup for the sump pump kicks on in 1/100 of a second so my sump pump is happy even without the generator.
I have flashlights and candles everywhere so we would not be in the dark.
It would be an exciting time.

janbb's avatar

@LuckyGuy I have a sneaking feeling you’re hoping the power goes out so you can change into your Superman suit! :-)

Nomore_Tantrums's avatar

Wintry mix moving
in tonight, schools already closed tomorrow. End of civilization until Saturday at least.

LuckyGuy's avatar

@janbb Guilty. ;-)
Like fine wine and fancy cheese all this stuff is only good if you use it.

We are supposed to get rain first, and then the temp will quickly drop freezing on wires and road surfaces. The snow will fall on top of that.
I predict there will be many accidents during the next 24 hours.

Jeruba's avatar

@LuckyGuy, and you are staying in, right? Keep cozy.

One year we had serious flooding around here, to the extent that furniture from the ground-level City Hall lobby floated down the downtown streets. My husband fired up the Coleman lantern, and I lit a dozen candles. We played board games in the living room by light that was brighter than by our usual electric lamps.

@raum, where are you?

raum's avatar

@Jeruba Board games by lantern sound cozy.

Just north of you, in the east bay. :)

LuckyGuy's avatar

@Jeruba I’ll make sure my driveway is all clear and nice but I won’t be going anywhere.
It will be a good day to stay home and keep all the bird feeders full.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Why don’t you just drive through the snow to get out of your drive way, instead of clearing it, @LuckyGuy?

LuckyGuy's avatar

@Dutchess_III Style points. :-) The driveway looks so much better when there are no packed tire tracks.
Actually I really do need to clear the part near the road. The snow plows close in our driveways when they go by. There is typically a pile 2–3 ft high. and 6–8 ft wide of packed heavy snow across the driveway after they pass. It is difficult to even get to our mail box.
The snow blower makes short work of it.
Unfortunately if you let that stuff just sit it will eventually freeze and then it is difficult to remove. Like washing dishes, it is better to do it sooner rather than later before it sets up.

And a clean driveway is appreciated by the delivery people.

It is in the 30s (F) where I live in northern California, but today I am in Santa Fe NM and it is a crystal clear 4 degrees.

Dutchess_III's avatar

22⁰, feels like 7 (but I wouldn’t know. I’m not out there) and snow everywhere.

FragileLayers's avatar

Cool and dark. Perfect for me.

Nomore_Tantrums's avatar

62F and sunny today, will hit low 70s over next few days. I can live with that.

Nomore_Tantrums's avatar

My only issue is that here in CenTex and early warm up can sometimes indicate a long hellish summer. But that’s better than a long hellish winter. To me anyway.

JLeslie's avatar

@Nomore_Tantrums I think it was so cold this winter that the summer will not be extraordinarily hot or long. To me, usually the trends tend to be a warmer YEAR or a cooler year. I think you might still get more winter weather before April, although maybe not in TX. You are so south after all.

We are cooling off again in central FL. Going to be in the 30’s tonight, then go up a little, and then in the 30’s again Sunday and Money night. Brutal on so many of the plants and crops here. Mostly, 60’s during the day for the next week with one day in the 70’s one in the 50’s. I think that will be our last cold dip here this winter. We’ll see.

Nomore_Tantrums's avatar

@JLeslie I hope you’re right!
