Do you think I should talk to my new doctor about my stuffy nose I've had for almost 2 years?

Asked by Cindy1302 (806points) February 22nd, 2022

For the past 2 years I’ve had a stuffy nose. I got sick at the beginning of the pandemic and have had a runny nose ever since. Sometimes its hardly noticeable but sometimes its pretty hard to breath. I talked to my old doctor over zoom and explained my symptoms and she said it sounded like allergies and not to worry about it. Another time I was gonna go in for a job interview but I was worried about my stuffy nose, not wanting to get people sick. I talked to another doctor. Not my doctor but a doctor and described my symptoms and he too said it sounded like allergies and just to go to my job interview. I’ve never had any tests done. Well, 2 years later I have a new doctor and I’m thinking maybe I should make an appointment to get checked out? Do you think its allergies since its been around for 2 years or could it be something else?

I think the answer to any question you ask about talking to your doctor about something is yes. If it is worrying you, talk to them.

Yes. Also talk to a pharmacist as well.

Get your money’s worth. Wear him/her out! Tell HIM EVERYTHING.

Sure. I’d mention it.

Have you tried allergy meds? Do you have any other allergic symptoms like itchy eyes?

Did you move into a new house around the same time?

Is it worse certain times of the year?

Maybe he’ll give you some antibiotics to try to bang it out if it doesn’t seem to be an allergy. Some Augmentin or something. Have you taken any antibiotics in the last two years for anything, it could be completely unrelated, and did it affect your stuffiness?

<sigh> Yes, see your doctor. We don’t know the answers to the things you ask about doctors and vets. We can ask lots of questions, but it’s no substitute for seeing your doctor, and I can’t help but wonder why you consistently ask us. We’re all just people who have to go to the doctor to have our questions answered.

If it was allergies, then they would go away with the changing of the seasons or by taking antihistamines.
Ask for tests, and if your doctor says they don’t think it is necessary, tell them you wanted it put on record that on this date you refused to perform any tests, and simply explain it is for legal purposes- I promise you they will run any test you want
