Why are the chevrons to the right of my bookmarks greyed out?

I can still click on them to open up my hidden bookmarks but the chevrons themselves have disappeared. I am using Chrome.

I think it happened after an update but I’ve not seen this problem mentioned by anyone else. It’s not really a big deal as my bookmarks are still working but it is annoying.
