Where should we stay in Edinburgh?

Asked by Caravanfan (13524points) April 16th, 2022

I’m finalizing a trip to Scotland and will be staying in Edinburgh for about 6 days. Where is the best area to look? Any suggestions? We prefer B&B to hotels, but will do hotels.

The Scotsman Hotel – right up the street (hill) from the train station, was terrific. A great combination of old fashioned traditional with wonderfully comfortable, and large for Europe, rooms. And within walking distance to the Royal Mile, Prince’s Street, etc. Loved it.

@janbb Looks like that’s right in Old Town also

@Caravanfan Yup. It is. And we were able to walk to New Town as well from there.

If you want to get out of Edinburgh for a day or two and see some other parts of Scotland, I recommend this company which runs mini-van tours. We took a 6 day tour of the highlands and Island of Skye and it was great. Sixteen people max with a Scottish driver/guide who was amazing. And the best part was that the group didn’t all stay together at night. They booked you into your choice of accommodations and many meals you were on your own.

You probably don’t want to do a longer country tour but even a one tour trip out of the city is worth it:

@janbb Edinburgh is the tail end of our trip. We are going to Orkney and Shetland islands before that.

@Caravanfan: Shetland Islands has a group on FB, which I follow. Incredible photos.
