If you were on a game show and had to recite an entire song from memory to win money, what song would you choose?

Asked by rockfan (14627points) May 30th, 2022 from iPhone

And you have 4 choices, only one to choose:

50,000 dollars (short song, 1–2 minutes)

500,000 (medium song 3–4 minutes)

1 million (long song, 5–6 minutes)

1 billion (7–10 minutes long)

I would go for 1 billion and recite American Pie by Don McLean.

Note: I realize that this is an extremely random question ;)

“One Hundred Bottles of Beer on the Wall”

I was about to suggest “Five Bottles of Beer on the Wall” until I read the more detailed rules.

Without any prep, I could do “Where Have All the Flowers Gone?” for 50K.

If I was scheduled to compete on a later date, I’d study the lyrics of “Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands” for 2 billion. ;)

King Of The Road by Roger Miller. I liked that song as a kid, and having played Mafia III I got to know it better.

“Galileo Galileo Galileo Galileo Galileo, Figaro

For Meheehee
For Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee”

I could do “Livin on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi which is probably about 4 minutes long.

@jca2

Funny coincidence! I just listened to that song for the first time in 10–15 years, and I still remembered every lyric. That’s what prompted me to ask this question.

American Pie was the first song I thought of before reading you chose it too.

Barbara Ann would be an easy one, that came to mind also. Practically the entire song is the chorus.

I think I know all the lyrics to Stairway to Heaven for a billion dollars.

@canidmajor They would give you a bazillion dollars just to stop singing that song!

“Whole of the Moon,” a song with long, involved lyrics.

Now, please give me my $1 billion.

I know all the words to “Life is a Rock but the Radio Rolled Me”. It was a neat trick in the 70s.
Here’s a cute video with the lyrics.

I’ll take that $500k in cash, please.

In A Gadda Da Vida is 17 minutes long, so $1 Billion qualified, but the lyrics are only 8 lines sung at the beginning and again at the end. A lot of air guitar in between.

“Garden in the Rain”.

They don’t make songs like that anymore. A melancholy song of magical moment long past but never forgotten.

Only the Good Die Young
by Billie Joel

And I could duet with @chyna on Stairway to Heaven.

“Happy Birthday To You”

Because I’m not paying taxes on anything over $50 k.

When I was a young teen, the NYC radio stations WPLJ and WNEW always did a Top 100 countdown every holiday weekend – Labor Day, Memorial Day, etc. The top #1 was always either Free Bird or Stairway to Heaven. Every. Single. Time. To the point where I was sick of Zeppelin, Who, Beatles, etc but I probably could do Stairway to Heaven and/or Free Bird.
