@Pied_Pfeffer Are you implying that besides the US… other countries are going this?

To be fair, there are all sorts of elections. The Fluther group is global. It’s a matter of being specific.

It’s just another cycle of incompetence. We have seen this time and time again. One party gets power, does nothing, the people get pissed off and elect the other party which, likewise, does nothing. At best they do nothing. At worst they screw the American public to line their own pockets and the pockets of their cronies, all the time blaming the other party for not going along with their schemes.

True change to elections and the basics of how our Congress works needs to happen. No more career politicians. 2 terms for a Senator, 3 for a Representative and then no more public teat to suck on. Give them a “retirement” that is full pay and benefits for 2 years and then no more. Build an apartment complex for the Congress, all apartments identical, and make that where they have to stay in Washington DC. Assign apartments by lottery initially and once a position is assigned to an apartment, it is always that position’s apartment, regardless of who is filling that position. Audit every elected official and their staff every year. Make the audits public. Give all elected officials and their staff random drug tests and a failure is a removal from office with forfeiture of any future benefits. Make a rule that no bill proposed by Congress can be more than 100 pages long and cannot cover more than one topic.

So these things and you will likely stop getting the corruption we currently have, you will get people running that want to serve, and our dread of elections will decrease

@seawulf575 OK… Boy do I love that… I might add something about becoming
lobbyists but term limits might cure that!

I love the part about building a ghetto… (housing complex) for congress!

I’m starting to gear up for the election here in the US. I had been taking somewhat of a break from politics, although still paying some attention, but last week I double checked that my mail-in ballot request is still in force for the next election, and I’m starting to tune into more politics on television. Soon I’ll have to hone in on the candidates here in my local area and read up. The next vote here is mid August.

My only dread is both parts of Congress flipping to the Republicans. I hope it doesn’t happen.

The ongoing dread I have regarding the division in America seems to not let up, because there is money and power in keeping us divided. Depressing. I’m grateful every time anyone with prominence reminds Americans we mostly want the same things and not to let people divide us.

Yup,cause I is afraid will the voters will give it to the Rep/cons and democracy will come to an end for the usa.

No. Looking forward to the comedy and drama. Historical!

@SQUEEKY2 ‘democracy will come to an end’ Do I have time to get laid?

SQUEEKY2's avatar

@WhyNow Don’t worry if the Rep/cons win the midterms they will make sure you get screwed all the time.

WhyNow's avatar

@SQUEEKY2 You are so clever… with a dash of whimsy!

Not the midterms, no. 2024 is probably going to be really ugly. There’s a chance I may not be living in the U.S. by then, so, have at each other, I guess.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Can me and my kids and 10 grandkids come with you @Demosthenes?? ?

I would dread the day the upcoming elections didn’t happen.
