How do you speak when your brain freezes?

Asked by SergeantQueen (12874points) June 20th, 2022

Like, my brain freezes up and I can’t even write what I want to say. I have to pause for a long while before I talk. Sometimes I never find the word/sentence and I just stop talking totally and freeze up.

Honestly, if I had that problem I would probably visit a neurologist.

@jca2 nah I’m fine I was just wondering how other people dealt with this problem.

I have never experienced a time like you describe when I could not speak or write. It sounds like there may be some neurological damage somewhere.

Sounds good.

@SergeantQueen: I don’t think it’s a problem that many other people have.

I used to freeze up. It was due to trauma. I had so many triggers it was often difficult to carry on a conversation. It happened at the most inconvenient times (like when I was trying to talk to my boss). It made me feel dull and stupid, and I am sure I lost some opportunities along the way.

For the most part that is all cleared up now. How did I heal from this? God restored my mind.

Romans 12:2
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

It is a process. I am living proof that it works.

Are you able to read and comprehend language being spoken to you while this is occurring? Do you ever stutter in your speech?

SergeantQueen's avatar

I stutter a lot. I have a hard time understanding only when people aren’t clear.

@SergeantQueen what you can detect is bad enough but there could be more to it so I would go the doctor ASAP.

@SergeantQueen “I have a hard time understanding only when people aren’t clear.”

I’m no expert, but I would think this is a very good sign and might be able to exclude certain types of injuries to the brain’s language center as a cause.

But that may not be the only problem. So, I would go to doctor not take a chance, @SergeantQueen

I used to freeze up in pageants quite often, since I was a bit shy. Kind of a mini panic attack. Once I repeated ‘I want to be a teacher’ ike 3x before I unfroze.

I grew out of it and gained confidence, but you may want to use index cards or notes so if you do get stuck you can keep it moving. Good luck!
