Anybody have some good advice on how to treat VERY bad Dry Eye Syndrome?

I’m sure that’s an awful situation. I’m sorry to hear about it.

I found on the Mayo site that there are medications a doctor can prescribe to you. Link I think it’s a good idea to discuss it with your opthmalogist.

For temporary relief, I’ve found that Clear Eyes Complete 7 Symptom Relief with 12 hours of protection helps me through my worst parts of the day. They also have a Triple Relief that is better than nothing but not as good as the Complete!!! There is a prescription one that is better but it costs over $125/month & I’m drawing a blank on the name.

Go see an opthalmologist.

You can try buying over the counter eye drops on the medical store nearest your place, some have effective to loosen up the dryness in your eye. But if you still experience dryness in your eyes, I think that’s the time to go see a professional doctor so as you would know the proper treatment in your eyes.

If drops and whatnot don’t help you just need to go to the eye doc. Does not sound like OTC remedies and web forum advice will help you here.

Are you taking any new medications?

Do you take any thyroid medication?

I’d go to a doctor and make sure they test your thyroid. If your eyes are painful and OTC drops and gels aren’t working, you need a doctor to help you.

If it is your thyroid, once your thyroid is regulated with medication your eyes will get better. You might still need some drops, but the situation should improve.

It might be something totally unrelated to thyroid, and there are prescription medications for dry eye.

Is your skin and hair very dry lately also? Is your hair falling out more than usual?

Even if the doctor gives you some sort of diagnosis about eye inflammation or tear quality, make sure he tests your thyroid. I cant say it enough.
