Have you ever been told that you look like someone famous?

Asked by RayaHope (7448points) August 5th, 2022

Movie star or television personality or even anyone on YouTube. Someone that most of us will recognize or at least be able to google. I was just curious.

A friend used to tell me I look like Cybil Shepherd.

RayaHope's avatar

@kruger_d Oh, she is such a dominant woman. So cofident.

cookieman's avatar

No, but many years ago, waiting in line for a muffuletta, a woman placed her finger on my chin and said, “Same dent as John Travolta”.

RayaHope's avatar

@cookieman LOL! I had to look up “muffuletta” sounds good ..yummy

Nomore_Tantrums's avatar

In my younger days I was often told I looked like Richard Dreyfuss.

RayaHope's avatar

@Nomore_Tantrums “You’re gonna need a bigger boat” lol!

filmfann's avatar

In my youth, Steven Speilberg.

Nomore_Tantrums's avatar

@RayaHope Lol love that movie! The interaction between the Dreyfuss character and that grouchy ass boat captain was hilarious.

RayaHope's avatar

Mike Meyers (the actor not the horror movie icon)

Jeruba's avatar

I was mistaken for Sandy Dennis a couple of times way back when. Not anytime lately, though.

Alas, I am never mistaken for Cate Blanchett.

Zaku's avatar

Yes, a few different ones. Only one did I know who it was, and remember. I was also told I had a look-alike whom a few people confused me with, whom I never met or found out who they were.

eyesoreu's avatar

Michael Keaton, when I had hair lol
Bruce Willis

@RayaHope: They are indeed yummy. Mmmm.

ragingloli's avatar

I was told I looked like an angel (biblically accurate).
I asked for clarification, but by then they had stabbed themselves in the neck.

RayaHope's avatar

@ragingloli Don’t cha just hate when that happens? Their blood gets all over your nice clothes.

Brian1946's avatar

Yes, several times, but a different person each time.

1. 1970, my brother said I resembled Art Garfunkle.

2. 1987. Alan Thicke.

3. 2013. George Carlin

4. 2020? Matt Damon. I don’t look like him now, but in this one photo of him, there is a strong resemblance to how I looked when I was his age.

RayaHope's avatar

@Brian1946 I had to look them up but I was surprised how similar they all are.

smudges's avatar

When both she and I were younger, I was told I look like Kathy Bates.

Here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kathy_Bates The second pic on the right and the next one on the left.

RayaHope's avatar

She was creepy in that one horror movie. Great actress.

Brian1946's avatar

@RayaHope

“She was creepy in that one horror movie.”

Hey, why didn’t you compliment me too? ;(

RayaHope's avatar

@Brian1946 I’m so sorry, I’m not sure I was supposed to compliment people, but I did look up the people you listed and noticed how similar they all looked. But if you want to please PM me and we can discuss this OR anything else if you want. I am always open to constructive discourse with anyone. I look forward to your message :)

Dutchess_III's avatar

When I was younger I was told I looked like Farrah Fawcett by everyone.

RayaHope's avatar

@Dutchess_III Best part of Baywatch is it is at a beach!

Brian1946's avatar

@RayaHope

Please don’t worry about it; you have absolutely NO obligation to compliment anyone here.

I was just kidding (hence the ;( at the end) when I said that, because I don’t see “She was creepy in that one horror movie” as being a compliment. I thought your comment was amusing and refreshingly honest. :)

rebbel's avatar

Nope, no one.

RayaHope's avatar

@Brian1946 I’m such a ditz sometimes :) things go right over my head (must be cause I’m only 5’5”) lol!

RayaHope's avatar

@rebbel If that avatar is you, you do look familiar to me somehow.

Brian1946's avatar

@RayaHope

Re: Kathy Bates in Misery; I think you could say that Matt Damon was creepy in The Talented Mr. Ripley.

BTW, I think 5’5” is 1” taller than the average American woman.

RayaHope's avatar

@Brian1946 Oh my, maybe I could be a model :) I wish.

smudges's avatar

@Brian1946 I’ve heard that, too, but no way do I believe that the average American woman is 5’4”! Seems like when I’m around women I’m always the short one and I’m 5’6”. I wish I was 5’8”...I’d look thinner. >8^)

Brian1946's avatar

@smudges

“Seems like when I’m around women I’m always the short one and I’m 5’6”.”

Could it be that a substantial number of those women are wearing high heels or platforms, and you aren’t?

My wife hasn’t worn heels since 1994, when I told her they’re potential health hazards.

smudges's avatar

@Brian1946 Yes, that’s possible. I might wear 2 inch wedges now and then, but it’s mostly Birkenstocks for me.

RayaHope's avatar

@Brian1946 I better not wear high heels or my stilettos when I’m around you. They’re 4 to 5 inches high :)

Dutchess_III's avatar

@RayaHope….she didn’t play in Baywatch.

Brian1946's avatar

I coulda sworn that Kathy Bates was in Baywatch! ;-o

smudges's avatar

@Brian1946 Nahhh…you’re thinking of Norman Bates

RayaHope's avatar

@Dutchess_III I see I got her confused with Pamela Anderson. Well, it was a little before my time.

JLeslie's avatar

Many many times. Jennifer Grey, Tatum O’Neal, Barbra Streisand, and Gloria Estefan.

RayaHope's avatar

@JLeslie You are beautiful :)

JLeslie's avatar

^^You decided that by knowing my doppelgängers? Lol. Aw, thanks.

RayaHope's avatar

I just realized I never said who it is that I was told I resemble. Grace Charis I can’t play golf though.

RocketGuy's avatar
