Will you do anything special for this Labor Day holiday weekend?

Asked by RayaHope (7448points) August 31st, 2022

I have to catch-up on my stupid school work before any fun stuff. Not sure what is planned yet but I hope we go visiting.

Show you how exciting my life is these days. Gotta hit the supermarket 5 AM tomorrow. I’ve been assigned the beverage responsibilities for the big picnic. Soda, beer, seltzer, and we have the shaved ice machine and syrups for sno cones and margaritas for those who bring tequila. There are always deals on soda for the big holidays. The deal currently is buy 2 12 packs get 3 free.

@HP That sounds like it’s gonna be a great time. I’m down for a snow-cone.

@Nomore_Tantrums Willies plan may give me a heart attack! Oh it does sound good, too good. Beans extra sweet YEAH!

Not a thing. Which is fine with me.

Reading some books, doing some outside work (trimming bushes, etc.), laundry, but basically a low key, not very active weekend.

I love it.

Going to see Van Morrison at Tanglewood.
A good Hike and some tennis is on the books as well.

Nope. Every day is pretty much the same for me right now. On Saturday I’m going out to a “dance” but it has nothing to do with the holiday.

Friday we’re returning from a week in the Berkshires. The weekend, no plans (yet) but school starts on Tuesday for my daughter so there may be a little shopping over the weekend, to prepare for school (ugh lol).

Forever_Free's avatar

@jca2 I have a home in the Berkshires. I hope you had a good week here. The storm on Tuesday night was crazy at Tanglewood during the Brandi Carlile concert.

@Forever_Free We’re at the Wyndham.

I will avoid actively requiring labor from the very groups that Labor Day is supposed to honor. A lot of working class people have to work on Labor Day weekend, I won’t be adding to their load. I won’t eat any meals out, I won’t shop, etc.

RayaHope's avatar

@canidmajor That is a very noble thing to do. I never thought of it that way before.

canidmajor's avatar

@RayaHope Less noble, more memory of frustration. I spent a lot of years working in restaurants and bars, and in retail. I kind of resented working extra hard to serve people who weren’t working class, and had Labor Day off when I didn’t.

I could see that, so many people have to work those holidays and weekends when other have those days off. I can only hope that people that do work those days can at least have some other days off to make up for it.

I’ll be tent camping in northern Wisconsin on a lake in a state forest with my husband. We’re staying an extra night so we’ll have the entire campground almost to ourselves the last night. Out of 16 sites only two others are booked for Monday. We were at the same campground last weekend and I got to fall asleep to loon calls. I’ve never been more at peace.

Nomore_Tantrums's avatar

Sounds great @Jonsblond How’s the weather outlook?

Jons_Blond's avatar

No rain finally! :)

@Jonsblond Have fun and stay safe. And don’t eat that porridge. Probably belongs to some dang bear.
