What is your favorite sport?

I love volleyball. I have to watch my excitement level but mostly I’m good at playing it and you can play at the beach :)

Rapier fencing. Street hockey. I combined both in a sport I called bicycle jousting. Was fun until someone got hurt.

Illegal street racing.

Tennis, football and team volleyball (not as into 2v2). I’ve not been following sports much lately though.

^ I was on a boat once, the worst experience I was sick the whole time.

Women’s beach volleyball specifically.

^^ Oh, was that you in the audience? Haha ;}

BASKETBALL!!

But also ice hockey (especially women’s).

And Olympic shit-talking.

…Because I’m a natural.

Hockey used to be good, but now it’s basically soccer.

I’m ashamed to admit it, what with the massive incidences of CTE, and various brain injuries, but gridiron football is the best sport to watch.

For 38 years my favorite sport was long distance running and racing. Had to just walk away from it because it damaged my heart.
My latest kick (for the last 7 years) is outrigger canoe racing. It’s low impact, easy on an aging body and a lot of fun.

RayaHope's avatar

@gondwanalon Seems like canoe racing would be strenuous.
@JLoon I’d listen to that Olympic sport, at least for a while :)

Extreme ironing always looked fun.

Basketball is the most enjoyable to watch.
As for playing – is table tennis really considered a sport?

RayaHope's avatar

@hat Sure is! :)

I played baseball for ten years as a kid and really enjoyed it. If I didn’t have to work, I might have kept playing.

I don’t watch much sports on TV, but if I do, it’s (American) football. They do a good job covering it on TV.

In person, my daughter and I try to go to a couple hockey games per year (Bruins!). It’s a fun time and tickets are reasonable.

My favorite in school was orienteering. You get a map of the outdoors with places to go find marked on it, and a compass, and then go out to find all the checkpoints and return.

I also liked badminton and dodgeball ok, and the times when the teachers were away and we had wars with yardsticks, erasers, and/or rubber bands.

@Zaku
“and the times when the teachers were away and we had wars with yardsticks, erasers, and/or rubber bands.” That sounds painful, I hope there were no girls there :)

Zaku's avatar

@RayaHope There were 50% girls, but they tended to avoid the wars, usually . . .

@RayaHope Canoe racing at it’s extreme is not where I choose to go. Long distance running and racing is absolutely brutal on the body. For over 3 decades I use to hammer my body until it went numb and then I would kept pushing. What started our as health addiction eventually turned very destructive. All I wanted to do was run and run and run. All the running caused my heart to develop a-fib. I chose to give up running and today my heart continues to beat normally (after the best heart experts in the world got finished working on an inside my heart).

I saw long distance runners in San Francisco’s Golden Gate park earlier this year. I recognize long distance runners and their thousand yard stare while they flew by. I felt sorry for them. I wondered how many of them will eventually wind up like me. Sad.

Too much of any good thing is bad.

@gondwanalon I heard that walking is far better for health than running. Running takes too much strain on your body and can be detrimental to health.

In school:
Softball,Volleyball,Basketball ( not much), basically Team sports.
Later in life ( at 40 years old )
Rafting,
Skydiving,
Hovercraft on lakes ( it was offerred as a tourist attraction to try),
Horseback riding,
Hiking,
Biking,
Putt Putt golf in a large Mall ( a few times),but got bored after awhile.
Always liked to try new things at least once in the way of activities.

The only sport acivity that I do presently is Hiking in nature and photographing.

RayaHope's avatar

@Inspired_2write Most of those sound great except skydiving and horseback riding.

Inspired_2write's avatar

@RayaHope
TRy it at least once.
As for skydiving if you try it make sure that they have radio’s on each participant as the one that I went to did and it helped as they guided you on the ground as to where to land and how.
In short it only took three min for the whole thing, but it was worth it.
Most students went for a series of jumps progressing at different hights to coplete a “passport” of sorts.
I was glad to had that experience.

RayaHope's avatar

@Inspired_2write I am deathly afraid of heights even looking over a bridge will make me woozy and scare the heck out of me. I tried horseback riding and it didn’t go so well, I think I’m too sensitive for that.

Inspired_2write's avatar

@RayaHope
So was I then at 40 years of age I tried it and overcame that fear because of the safety involved.

RayaHope's avatar

@Inspired_2write I’m not sure what would hit the ground first, my petrified dead body or the vomit?

Inspired_2write's avatar

@RayaHope
The surprise was that one does NOT feel like they are falling because the parachute floats one down slowly.
Theat was the danger as its so peacefull that some forget to pull the one cord to open the start chute ( smaller one to pull one away from the plane).

RayaHope's avatar

^^Oh God now I KNOW I’ll never try that. (cringe)

canidmajor's avatar

@RayaHope Yeah, don’t do that!!! There are a lot of ways to deal with a fear of heights that don’t involve leaping 8nto the void from a high altitude!

RayaHope's avatar

@canidmajor I know I’m still a little anxious about our flight to Florida. I stocked up on medicine.

canidmajor's avatar

You’ll do great, concentrate on the point of your visit. :-)

RayaHope's avatar

^^ That is what I’m gonna do! :) ◝(ᵔᵕᵔ)◜
