How do I change the currency in google maps IN THE iOS APP? (a device-specific issue, not an account/settings issue)

Asked by marmoset (1311points) October 14th, 2022

All the help I can find is about adjusting one’s region setting at the account level. My google account’s region is (and always has been) set to US – my currency displays as $ in google maps on desktop with no issue.

The issue is that in the google maps app on my iPhone, all currencies have been displaying as € ever since I briefly put a European sim in my phone, more than a year ago.

I’ve never solved this. Actions so far include updating to current version of iOS, logging out of and back into google on my phone, and even uninstalling & reinstalling the google maps app on my phone.

I haven’t had a non-US sim in my phone, or used my phone anywhere outside the US, in more than a year. I have a normal cell contract with a major US provider (Verizon) and my US sim is the original provided by Verizon.

No other app on my phone is having this issue.

Help??

Try this:

How do I change currency on Google Maps app?

Click on the More options button in the upper left corner on the Search page. Scroll down to the Currency field and select your desired currency. Your search results will be displayed in the specified currency.

(Thank you janbb but this doesn’t appear to apply to the iOS app)

How To Change Google Maps Currency On Iphone? ^^^^^^ What @janbb said !

. . . Change your country, language, and currency settings

If you’d like to use different settings, you can change the default settings for currency, language, or country.
iPhone & iPad

To change your currency or country:

Go to Google Flights.
Tap the 3-dot icon and select Change currency or Select country.

@Tropical_Willie Yup. That’s the search I did for those results.

@marmoset Just looked at on my iPad. It looks like you have to search for “Google Flights” then when that loads, go to the three dots on the top right and you can see, “Change currency” and scroll down to select US dollars. That should change it then for Google Maps. A little odd but that looks like the way you have to do it.

Edit They’re the three little lines on the top left.

Thank you but I’m not looking for how to change my currency settings at the account level. My currency is already (has always been) set to $ at the account level and is displaying as $ everywhere but my google maps iOS app. It’s specific to the app. For example, when I go to maps.google.com in the browser on that same phone, currencies display correctly as $.

Some condition (some persistently saved auto-change from briefly using that sim more than a year ago) is causing just this app to override my account setting for currency.
