Is it healthy to drink 4-6 cups of tea a night?

Asked by SergeantQueen (12874points) October 28th, 2022

I have an insane amount of tea. The past 3 nights I have not had any alcohol. But to replace it, I have been drinking tea.

I keep telling myself “I’ll drink after I finish this tea” and I just keep making more tea. I drink herbal caffiene free at night, or caffiene free black tea. Usually 4 cups sometimes more.

YES! I am not a doctor but sis drink all the tea you want! Your body probably loves it. Best trade ever!! Hugs.

Do you need to get up to pee several times a night? When you do pee, how does it look? Dark yellow, a little yellow, almost no color?
I try to drink a lot during the day but cut way back a couple of hours before bed so I don’t have to get up in the middle of the night – and I don’t have pee dreams.

By the way, this Q reminds of the first joke I understood and thought was funny. I was in 2nd grade, probably 6 or 7 years old. “Did you hear about the Indian who drank 47 cups of tea? The next morning the found him dead in his teepee.”

No I don’t pee a ton and it isnt dark.

I stay up till 5am, thats the “a night”

I would be peeing all night. 4 cups is like one of those mega huge drinks from a convenience store. As long as you are drinking it over a couple of hours or more I doubt there is any harm. I’m not a doctor.

Drinking anything too fast isn’t good for you. Exceptions might be if you’re extremely dehydrated, but even then a little bit of pacing yourself is warranted. A gallon of water force fed in a few minutes is dangerous.

That’s great that you aren’t drinking alcohol.

I agree with @LuckyGuy. Extra fluids consumed right before bed time still have to be processed and will be whether you want them to be or not.

Another consideration would be what kind of tea it is. Some tea has a lot of caffeine in it. Drinking a lot of that right before bed time might keep you awake or give you restless sleep. Not to mention caffeine is a diuretic. See the comment about peeing. If you wanted to drink tea into the night, I’d suggest finding something you like that doesn’t have caffeine. Many herbals don’t and they taste good.

If it’s helping you stay away from alcohol, go for it.

Keep in mind that many teas are diuretics, and just make you pee more.

article.

It’s better than all that booze and cheaper too. Serve your tea hot so you will drink it more slowly.

Yes, that’s fine even healthy as long as you’re sleeping well. I probably have 5 cups of coffee a day on average. Studies show it’s a net benefit for most people’s health. Contrary to what is commonly thought, caffeinated tea and coffee won’t dehydrate you like alcohol will. That’s a myth. Since you’re drinking herbal there will not likely be any dehydrating or sleep effects.

If you really want to replace alcohol, aerobic exercise will release a flood of feel good endorphins. Especially if you work up a good sweat. So drink your tea, and get that blood pumping. You’ll feel great.

@SergeantQueen Major congrats on no alcohol for three nights! That’s huge! Drink that tea, girl!

btw, a little trick that helped me with both quitting drinking and dieting is by thinking…“I can have a drink (burger), but I’m choosing not to. It took away my rebellious feeling that I wasn’t allowed to and made it a choice instead

Well, I fucked up last night and drank.

But Good to know that much tea isnt bad.

I drink about 2 litres of tea every day, without any ill effects.
If I did that with coffee, though, I would probably die.
