What's going on with the community feed board?

Asked by RayaHope (7448points) February 4th, 2023

Jellies that are not even here getting awards for great answers (they’re not even here, the jelly up there now was last here in 2019) and duplicates of others filling all the other spaces? I’m not really complaining, just wondering what’s happening?

The odd troll who was outraged at being sent away was back with a new account earlier, sent away, and seem to have another new one.
Lucky mods, having to deal with it.

I hope they can get it out of our pond!

They keep trying!

Well, I didn’t trigger that chain of GA notices, but once in a while I do GA someone I know is gone.

Let’s say I happen on an old thread and see an answer I never GA’d (perhaps from a time when I was on hiatus), and their avatar is still there, their account isn’t deleted. I like the answer, so I mark it. I get a small spark of pleasure to see in the feed that Auggie (augustlan) or Gail (gailcalled) or Gary (whatthefluther) or cak has just received a Great Answer. And I know I’m not the only one who does this.

I GA’d an old quip of Auggie’s just last night.

Oh, and the related questions just took me here:

@Jeruba I sometimes necropost old questions and answers with a GA.

When becoming a member here, do the mods who approve someone see the applicant’s IP address? Or is there no official approval, someone simply applies and is approved automatically?

Because if someone has to be approved by the mods and their IP address is available, it should be a quick and easy solution to simply deny that person’s membership. There are other sites that do that. But I don’t know how fluther operates.

@smudges They can block certain IP addresses.

canidmajor's avatar

Hey, @RayaHope, now it’s you filling up my community feed!

smudges's avatar

@jca2 Thank you! So that means that people who become members after being banned are using different computers, right? They have to watch for and ban them each time they manage to get on. :(

canidmajor's avatar

@smudges, yeah, pretty much, or just move around in an area using public Wi-Fi. It’s just annoying. I flag the profiles when I can.

RayaHope's avatar

@canidmajor darn, I must have missed it. lol

It must be the fluther afterlife.

I often look at old posts and give old timers great answers or Great questions. Usually late on a Sunday night. :)

And now it’s @kritiper’s turn.

I think it might be spammers coming on to give points to people they like. I know I was followed by 3 people and when I went to their profiles it said that they didn’t exist.
