Am I a freak of nature?

Asked by NoMore (3231points) March 12th, 2023

I recently had an arterial bypass operation on my leg, to stop a blood clot from going to my heart. All went well, but the medical team mentioned that I have A fib, which I already knew. They also said they had found “A weird electrical quirk” in my heart, which I had been told about by my cardiologist years ago. He’d thought I had had a heart attack but after running tests he said I wasn’t in bad shape, just had this “Weird electrical quirk” which had made him think that. But actually it is normal (for me).So what the hell could it be and why would it be normal for me, but an indicator of medical issues on some one else? I have to wonder if I’m reptilian from Mars or a freak of some kind.

I doubt you are one, at least not for that reason. If you’re really curious, seek another professional opinion. None of us can tell you anything useful.

Nah I was just wondering about it. I’ve been told the same thing by my Cardiologist and more recently by that Surgical team. They always say it’s no reason for concern and just leave it at that. Oh well.

@NoMore – maybe you have defective heart cells. My mom had a bunch of those. Ablative heart surgery was able to blast them away. She was able to walk around 24 hours later. And she was 80+ years old at the time. It seems you don’t need all of your heart cells, only need the ones that work properly.

Well @NoMore You’re my kind of freak! I think you’re great just the way you are and if that ticker has been working all this time, it’s gonna work a whole lot longer!
