General Question

Celeste00's avatar

Which superpower would you choose to have? Flight, or invisibility?

Asked by Celeste00 (786points) September 24th, 2008

Apparently, the answer to this quesion says a lot about the person. You can only have one and no other power. I keep changing my mind about it…
Oh, and please do say why.

Immortality for me, thank you.

RandomMrdan's avatar

Instant transportation to anywhere I want to be at any time I wanted. What can I say? I love to travel. Think of all the savings I would have from not having to buy gas, plane tickets, etc.

iwamoto's avatar

if i can be invisible…he he he…HE HE HE…

robmandu's avatar

Flight. Because it’s awesome.

RandomMrdan's avatar

oh hahahaha I didn’t read the details…

I would have to choose flight, like Rob says, it’s awesome, and I can still save all my gas money =)

Here are some more answers from about a month ago, and this similar one from last April.

Celeste00's avatar

@Seesul thanks for the research, but my question is different. I would like people to choose one of the two options I’m giving them and explain the reasons why.

Celeste00's avatar

@Random but if you’re invisible, you can just take money, or walk into airplanes…

robmandu's avatar

@Celeste00, answering your question to RandomMrdan for myself:

Invisibility enables all kinds of negative behavior… which you mention.

So, if I had to guess what the “answer to this question says about a person,” it’d be that you’re choosing, in essence, if you want to be a hero or a villain.

AstroChuck's avatar

Yeah, but how would you be able to sleep if you can always see through your eyelids?

Celeste00's avatar

@rob or whether you want to admit to other people which one you’d actually be….

Celeste00's avatar

@AstroChuck I think the premise of the superpower is that you can turn it off when you want.

Sueanne_Tremendous's avatar

Invisibility. Can you imagine the things you would see? I suppose it would have it’s downside too. Like catching a lover with another or hearing people talk about you as if you weren’t there. Still, the upside is pretty huge. I’d get first hand product information before it was introduced company wide. I’d find out why so-and-so got fired. I’d could watch Harp to see if he really knows all of this stuff off the top of his slightly bigger head. And believe me, I’d love to catch my Jenn, at least once, during her umm quiet time.

Hey Celeste! You forgot to put “sex” in the topic….we need the sex in the cloud to get bigger…

robmandu's avatar

@Celeste00, eh? Say what?

In either case, since the power can be turned off whenever you want, then there’s no need to “admit” to other people which you have, if any.

Or did I misread?

RandomMrdan's avatar

@celeste you see, if I were to steal money…people would just see money floating away…unless I could turn other things invisible (which now makes me question, am I going to have to walk in the nude to be completely invisible?)

And as far as walking into a plane…sure it would work, but I may not have a seat to sit down in =(

Celeste00's avatar

@rob one of the points of the question, is that a lot of people who would actually rather have invisibility, will answer flight, just to make it sound better.

flameboi's avatar

I wanna fly,
up in the sky
I wanna fly,
so high…
My dream is to fly, over the rainbow, so high!

robmandu's avatar

@celeste, ahhh-h-h-h-h-h… crazy psych questions.

Celeste00's avatar

@Random that is the first question people ask with invisibility. And apparently, it was agreed that your clothes would become invisible, but that’s it. The second question is whether you’d have to be all quiet when you’re in a room. Yes, the money would be floating away, but by the time people figure out what’s going on, you’d probably be long gone… And seats on airplanes are overrated. :P

RandomMrdan's avatar

@celeste I’d still have to go with flying though….however I really could see the advantages being invisible would present.

AstroChuck's avatar

I want to change my pick.
I want to be Aphrodisiac Man.
Or does Pheromone Man sound better?

Celeste00's avatar

@Sueanne sorry, now I can’t edit it no more :( I promise to remember next time, though

You should choose INVISIBILITY over Flight, and here are the logical reasons why:

You wil DIE if you choose flight, because even though you may have the ability to FLY like Superman, you won’t have the ability to LAND as he does, which requires invulnerability.

With invisibility, you can enter the locker rooms of the opposite sex, with impunity.

RandomMrdan's avatar

haha you don’t have to be invulnerable to land! you simply fly slowly to the ground and then once you are within a couple feet of the surface, you just drop to land on your feet.

Lee_27's avatar

I would pick mind reading that way life would be way less complicated plus how fun would that be.

JackAdams's avatar

Superheroes land at the “speed of gravity.” Only Peter Pan “floats” or “glides,” and that isn’t true flying.

Celeste00's avatar

@Jack all very good points… Although if the movies are any indication, Superman lands pretty softly, otherwise Louise Lane would bitch a lot.

DrasticDreamer's avatar

I would pick flight. I’ve always wanted to fly – I think it would be awesome. Besides, can you imagine how truly amazing your personal quiet time would be? And the places you could go, on a whim? I would love it. And as I answered before, flying, in ways, would make you invisible. No, you couldn’t get away with stealing money, or spying on people, or any other sinister thing, but screw that. I wouldn’t want to anyway. I’m much more of a ‘keep to myself’ kind of person.

Nimis's avatar

Invisibility. Flight without invisibility?
That’s like an invitation for someone to shoot you down.

AstroChuck's avatar

Who the hell is Louise Lane?

RandomMrdan's avatar

I suppose I would reconsider my answer depending on how fast I’m capable of flying.

Celeste00's avatar

@AstroChuck Pardon, I meant Lois.

AstroChuck's avatar

Oh, Lois’ cousin Louise. Got it.

JackAdams's avatar

Lois Lane has a sister named Lucy Lane, BTW.

Celeste00's avatar

@Random that is also a common question. Apparently, the rule is: flight is the power to fly within the earth’s atmosphere at speeds up to 1000 m/h. Another question people ask is whether you can carry someone.

RandomMrdan's avatar

oh man…1,000mph is definitely something I would take over invisibility….you don’t have to be invisible to get away with something, you can grab it and snap, you’re gone!

AstroChuck's avatar

Man, getting hit by a bird, or even a bug, could be lethal at those speeds. You better have eagle eyes and lightening fast reflexes to go along with your power of flight.

RandomMrdan's avatar

heavy leather jacket, and also a helmet with visor. I would have to wear a lot of clothes just to keep myself warm flying up really high like that anyways. I’m sure I’d be ok from bugs with a lot of clothing…but birds…well I’d have to just steer clear of them.

gimmedat's avatar

Invisibility would be awesome! I could put all my devious plans into action without worry!

syz's avatar

Flight. My greatest wish is to be able to travel the world. If I could fly myself, I could go where ever I want.

augustlan's avatar

I have always wished I could fly. It just seems like it would be exhilarating, and peaceful all at the same time.

luvu98m's avatar

Being invisible isn’t a superpower. I’ve been invisible for as long as I can remember. So I guess that’s my answer for you.
