Are you ready to live in "freedom cities"?

Asked by ragingloli (52394points) 1 week ago

To be brief: “Freedom cities” are essentially dystopian modern techno-feudalist company towns owned, operated, and controlled by corporations, where the owner class is “free” of laws and regulations, and its inhabitants “free” of legal protections or civil rights, which the oligarchs are currently lobbying Agent Krasnov to authorise and support.

No. Sounds like the Matrix. Or a ranch that farms humans. I’m not ready with humans becoming livestock.

Like the old company towns of the 1880s through the 1930s. Awful. Employees were basically slaves always in debt to the company owner.

I can’t see how these freedom cities would operate in society. State laws would still be the overriding legal framework for most things.

Some people would like it for the ‘security’ but they give up all their rights by doing so.

If the oligarchs are going back in history to the Gilded Age to look for inspiration, they should flip back a few chapters and take a look at 1793 as well…

So Trump WANTS to build a place that is rigid and unresponsive with no ability to adapt?

Certainly is clear of the direction he is taking the US.

You remember all that cyberpunk dystopian sci fi? It was meant as a warning. Not a fucking how to.

All those sci-fi writers tried to warn us (obviously as well as real humans with souls).

A city where people can see everything you do and determine if you need to be “corrected” if you don’t fit in with society.

Acting too ethnic? Cut your hair and wear better clothes, and let us bully you at work or we’ll fire you lol.

Libertarian – so you only pay for what you want to use. Perpetually no savings, then?

I’m not a fan. Even the name gives me the shudders.

Freedom for who? Freedom of some to oppress others perhaps, which becomes slavery.

A freedom city will be run much like an HOA, only likely will have more regulations. Do you like living under the regulations of an HOA? I have several times in different cities. Some of their requirements are downright ridiculous!
