So whats the difference between jamming your finger badly and breaking it?

my finger hurts really bad because i hurt it yesterday while playing football with a friend and i cant tell if i jammed it or broke it

Here ya go. If it’s in the joint, it’s probably a jam, bones tend to break between joints(at least in my x-rays), it could be fractured though. Breaks really swell up too, you would know by now if you snapped it.

You would know immediately if you had broken a bone; swelling, discoloration, severe pain, distortion around the site. (Also may be warmer to the touch than surrounding areas.) Always better to be safe than sorry. I broke a pinkie and separately, a bone in wrist. I knew within 30”. If you’re unsure, get an x-ray.

As gail and hoosier have said, both a break, a sprain (or “jam”) and a dislocation can look and feel the same. Try icing it, and taking ibuprofen every 6 hours for the swelling and pain. If that isn’t helping, you should get an x-ray to rule out a fracture.

I just jammed it. lol
I thought it might have been broken because it swelled up alot and it was very bruised and i couldnt bend it at first but already its getting better so im pretty sure i just got a bad jam
