Is it normal to have your period 11 days apart?

Asked by CelticsFan (140points) October 11th, 2008

A friend of mine is experiencing this…she’s 31 years old and had one child at 22, no health complications.

She should consult her doctor. No one here knows her history nor can examine her, so it’s not the safest place to look for advice.

Well obviously!! I’m only interested in what people out there have to say…perhaps someone will have an intelligent and helpful response to my question.

It is not normal…but not necessarily dangerous, either. It can be caused by many things, including ovarian cysts. I bled every day for 2 years before I had a hysterectomy.

Polymenorrhea is the medical term for cycles with intervals of 21 days or fewer.

The 28 day cycle is a myth. Women really vary on this. However, because you are asking, I’m going to assume it’s not normal for you; that fact could indicate there is some sort of problem. You must go see the Gyno. But don’t get all worried now. Our cycles change all the time. PersonalIy, I have about 15 periods a year. Every so often I have a period about every 18–20 days, but return to a more normal cycle after awhile. I’ve done all the tests, and I have no problems, so my docs say it’s just the way my body works. But definitely go get checked out. You should do it once a year anyway.

An intelligent and normal response, unless one of us in the medical profession (and he seems to be on hiatus) is not to make uneducated guesses. If this is a new way for her menses to behave, she should hotfoot it to gyno. Cysts, fibroids, endometriosis, benign tumors, hormonal issues, etc.

If it’s a change from the “usual” in that individual’s case, then it is not normal. However, I wouldn’t necessarily compare it to everyone else’s “normal.” And as usual, a doctor’s advice is probably better than even a gaggle of flutherites.

well yes of course a doctor’s advice is better than any advice I could get on fluther, I just wanna know if any other women have experienced this kind of activity (I’m a guy) and I just want to understand better. Oh and the sarcastic remarks some of u have been leaving truly shows your immaturity and ignorance toward other people simply seeking insight.

No need to be snippy. I just didn’t want you to think you could find “THE” answer here.
