Old Razr is worn out. I have a contract with AT&T. What phone should I buy?

Asked by susanc (16139points) October 14th, 2008

It has to be good at picking up a signal. I don’t want to spend a lot of money. The guy at the AT&T store says it’s cheapest to buy it from them (with a longer contract). Should I go to Radio Shack?

iPhone… If you already have an AT&T contract, this would be the coolest and best way to go.

iPhone!

It’s worth the investment, has awesome call quality [I say this, and I’m currently in Alabama. If it’s good here, it’s good anywhere.]

You might want to try the cnet.com cell phone buyer’s guide.

Note that the prices listed on the site are different usually from what you’ll find in the store. Also, the prices on AT&T Wireless’s Web site are different from the prices you’ll find in the store. They love to make it simple.

This phone is a top 5 AT&T phone according to cnet.

Lastly, you may be eligible for a free upgrade according to the terms of your contract. I’ve never gotten one myself, but it seems that they are awarded every one or two years. Check with AT&T to see if you’re eligible.

Phooey, kevbo. Stop being fair! Options to the iPhone are not an option!

If you don’t want to renew your AT&T contract when it ends I would just buy an AT&T phone fron ebay. You just need to change out the sim card. You could probably get another Razor pretty cheaP.

She said that she doesn’t want to spend a lot of money. With a $200 cost for the phone and almost $2000 for the basic 2 year contract, the iPhone doesn’t seem like the best choice.

Meh, Eambos and his anti-Apple disposition. /sigh

the older iPhone cost more to buy but in the long run cost less than the newer version. I would recommend the iPhone over anything else. The investment is well worth the money.

If not iPhone, go Nokia. I have owned 5 Nokias, my original is an antique massive Nextel-sized phone. Nokia’s reception & lack of bugs is superior to all others. Any Nokia model you choose will guarantee you a constantly functional cell phone. Hell, I can even get clear calls through all the concrete in the back of the store in any WalMart.

I have to have AT&T because it’s the only cell tower near enough. That’s a decision
I don’t need to make.

I already own an iPhone! that belonged to my dear departed. I thought it would be too expensive to run it; and it does raise my monthly rate by $30 because of the added internet access. I might find that handy – I’d have to learn to. But I’ll drop some minutes, which drops my rate down $20. (I use my old faithful land line much of the day.) So for a net increase in fees of $10, I get what shilolo and squirbel want me to have.

Very, very grateful for the coaching. I really couldn’t have figured this out alone.

And they’re so easy to use. Seriously, once you get one you’ll wonder how you ever managed without it!
