Car insurance question?

Asked by skabeep (927points) October 15th, 2008 from iPhone

I came home Monday morning from camping around 8am and immediately went to sleep. Sometime between then and noon someone stole my pistol out of my truck. I just realized it was gone since I haven’t used that vehicle since. The gun is registered to me and I do have a license to carry it. Would my car insurance buy me a new gun? I have full insurance and it was a $700 gun

was the truck parked in your driveway or on the street?

if you filed a police report then yes your insurance should
Cover it. I know mine would.

You should read your policy. Each one is different. Sorry to be a huge downer, but you don’t even know if Judochop has the same carrier as you, not to mention the same type of coverage…

Sorry your gun got stolen, that really sucks.

For what it’s worth, my policy (full coverage) wouldn’t cover anything not installed in the vehicle. So a stereo would be covered (as would speakers) but a laptop or CDs wouldn’t.

It turns out a lot of homeowner’s policies cover this sort of thing though, my car insurance company recommended contacting the company that holds the homeowner’s policy (was actually a roommates house and insurance) and it was covered by them since it happened on the premises. Maybe something to look into.
