Bradley Effect; Anti-Bradlely Effect: Will they matter?

Asked by jvgr (1940points) October 19th, 2008

The Bradley Effect (when a white vocal supporter of a black candidate actually votes for a white choice) has been discussed and now talk of the Anti-Bradlely Effect (a white vocally against a black candidate actually votes for the black because of self interest).
Is it likely?
Will it matter?

Not too sure if it will matter. By the way, Colin Powell just endorsed Obama on Meet The Press. I considered myself a Republican or a Conservative before 8 years of Bush. I still consider myself a traditional Conservative, but my views on issues are quite varied, and some may consider me a Libertarian.

Anyway, for the first time in my life, I plan to vote for a Democrat/Obama.

fivethirtyeight.com seems to think it won’t matter, and they seem like they should know.

@rawpixels: I think you’re very smart to vote democratic in this election. I don’t see how republicans can make any claim on fiscal conservativism after the last eight years. It would be nice if there were more conservatives like Powell represented in the party, but lately they’ve been crowded out by some pretty unsavory elements.

Thanks. The GOP will have to do some serious soul searching after the get whipped on November 4th. Are they going to remain the party that panders to the uninformed religious nuts out there, or will they start acting like true conservatives? I’m proud of Colin Powell, George Will, Chris Buckley, and other genuine conservatives who have told it like it is.

McCain is calling Obama a socialist, yet McCain voted for the the $750 billion plan, as well. Fortunately, there are still some informed people out there who see through this utter bull$@$!
