Is she crazy?

Asked by skabeep (927points) October 24th, 2008 from iPhone

I just started seeing this girl and she is great. Fun smart gorgeous but something is throwing me off. Sometimes when we are walking, driving or in bed she mumbles to herself. I often think she is talking to me but if I ask what she said she will always say nothing. I wonder if she even knows she does it

Chalk it up to people having their little quirks and idiosyncrasies. Have you asked her if she realizes she’s doing it? If she’s great for you is it a big enough deal to bother you? I think those are better questions for you to ask yourself than asking if she is the one with the problem.

Unless she’s talking to other voices she is hearing.

If she starts arguing with herself as you drive down the road and then randomly breaks down in tears and says her other half does not understand her and wants to kill itself off I would say you are fine and she is normal.

LOL it doesn’t bother me but I had just found myself asking “huh?” again and wondered if anyone else has experienced this

I do it all the time….sometimes I’ll have an entire conversation with myself. I’m a little crazy…(pet squirrels kick ass!), but I’m not going to freak out and stab anyone while they are sleeping.

i have a friend that does this. of course, i don’t know if it’s exactly the same.

for what it’s worth, when my friend, annie, does it, what she’s saying is to me, but i think she doesn’t consider the comment very important, which is why she mumbles, and then why she says “nothing” afterward. but she does have some issues with self-esteem, social anxiety, OCD, but like cheeb, she’s not stabbing anyone in their sleep.

EDIT: I just realized that if taken the wrong way, one might think i was suggesting that cheebdragon had social anxiety, OCD, etc, which I’m not, just for the record. I’m just saying neither she nor annie is a psychotic murderer…as far as i know ;-)

i’m ALWAYS mumbling to myself. i remember in one job review, the only negative thing theycould find to say was that i talked to myself too much.
WTF? I enjoy discussing things with me!!!!
I would let it go. the voices in my head told me to say that

I’ve always got something running through my head and every once in a while I’ll say something out loud. More as a reminder about an important point than anything else.

Sometimes I don’t even notice that i said anything if there isn’t another person around.

Very rarely am I actually talking to someone else when I notice this. Most likely, I’ve been walking, or driving or falling asleep (something somewhat mindless) and have been letting my brain run its course.

So, I don’t really know if she is crazy or not, but this characteristic shouldn’t worry you too much.

I laugh out loud at jokes I remember. Makes people pick up their kids and move away…then I laugh harder.

Mumbling to oneself is not an obvious indicator of insanity. I mean, it’s a bit odd, but lots of people mumble to themselves, or talk to themselves. Geniuses, even.. you could be dating a genius! I would bet I do both, I know I certainly talk to myself all the time, sometimes without even realizing it. I’m embarrassed about doing it, so who knows, I could even be mumbling.

I would not chalk her off as crazy just for this.. Personally, I’d wait and observe a bit more and see if any other crazy flags pop up.

no one likes getting caught “thinking out loud” aka mumbleing to themselves. half the time you don’t know your doing it.
