Is heaven some other place? another dimension? Is it on earth? Who will be there? How do you go to heaven?

that’s alot of questions. Why do you ask?
I think heaven is in another dimension, and is all that we love and that loves us.

To quote David Bryne, “There’s a band in heaven that plays your favorite song. Play it one more time, play it all night long. Heaven is a place where nothing ever happens.”

heaven is going to be where i find all my relatives, friends and pets that have passed away and i miss all so much. we’re going to love each other and catch up on old times and hang out forever.

Hobbes's avatar

Well, according to The Lady in the Radiator, in heaven, everything is fine.

TrenchantWit's avatar

no such thing

@trench: Then don’t answer. Sheesh. Obviously, this is a question for the faith based, Heaven believing crowd here.

Personally, I am expecting to be with family and friends again, but I don’t necessarily think of it as being a “place” so much as just a feeling.

AstroChuck's avatar

Heaven is a state of mind. Let’s hope it’s a blue state.

fireside's avatar

I see it as sort of an expansion and lightening while still maintaining some sense of personal identity for a period of time until you gradually become one with the pulsating current that surrounds everything.

artificialard's avatar

Awesome answer AstroChuck. I think if there were a heaven it would be the same physical realm but it’s us that would be different. I think of it in the sense that 2 people can be in exactly the same place but see completely different things in completely different state of minds.

just to make sure i’m being clear with my answer, i’m just going say that in general, when people ask about heaven, i assume they are talking about the afterlife. so for me, i think heaven will be more of a Brahman thing. nothing will be physical, so heaven isn’t going to have a “place” or a “look”. it will just be. all souls will join in spirit and we’ll watch the world. and there’ll be lots of love.

how does one get to heaven? i’m not quite sure yet. i think (almost) everyone is made with a good heart, therefore everyone will “go to heaven” or rather, have a pleasant afterlife. though there is one person, who i do truly belive was evil at heart, and his soul is still here, roaming the earth for eternity.

deaddolly's avatar

i don’t believe in it either.

seVen's avatar

The Word of God [The Holy Bible] describes it best, who can know it better than the Creator of it all.
God Bless.

I really liked S Lewis’ picture in The Great Divorce
Seeing heaven as more real than earth, and so big that even a little bit of heaven couldn’t fit in earth. It’s one of my all time favorite books. I haven’t read it in a few years. I think I’ll read it again. Thanks for the question Watchman!

jvgr's avatar

If you are a Dogon, heaven will be exactly the same as your earthly life except the colours will be a bit more vibrant so you can tell the difference.

Judi's avatar

I meant CS Lewis. I wonder where my “C” went?

cookieman's avatar

I’m not sure, but I hope there’s an endless supply of chocolate chip cookies there.

AstroChuck's avatar

I could make a smart ass, raunchy remark, Judi, but I’ll behave.

Judi's avatar

good call astro

cdwccrn's avatar

warm chocolate chip cookies, hot cocoa with marshmellows.

asmonet's avatar

I bet it will be fluffy.

jca's avatar

fluffy and happy.

AstroChuck's avatar

fluffy, happy, & shiny.

cookieman's avatar

fluffy, happy, shiny, and full of warm chocolate chip cookies (and milk).

asmonet's avatar

…with a side of double stuft oreos.

Hobbes's avatar

And there will be cats. And tea. And good books. And lots of opportunities for naps in the sun.

asmonet's avatar

Psh! And puppies. Oh so many fat-bellied puppies.

AstroChuck's avatar

and high class hookers. We’re talking real beauties! No crack hoes.

Hobbes's avatar

Why the need for hookers? Why not just very sexually liberal women and no STDs or danger of pregnancies? I assume there wouldn’t be money in heaven in any case.

asmonet's avatar

Maybe he likes to pay. Maybe it gives him satisfaction. Don’t judge his heaven. For shame, Hobbes, for shame.

Hobbes's avatar

I… I have brought dishonor on the Collective. I am shamed and shall now commit Seppuku.

asmonet's avatar

Pour vous.

I actually found a lot of disturbing pictures in my search for that. A lot.

Do you know how heaven is? this is a fact that is written,,, heaven will be in different levels, each level depends on people’s believes, where prophets will be in the first level,, we will not know each other, i wont know my mom or dad or nobody else, we will all be the same age and each one of us will have a husband and a wife, there will be this huge tree where we can wish for whatever we want, anything everything we want it will be in that tree,, and heaven will be green that’s why God created the plants green and we mostly see green, there will be a river,,, i wanna be there,,, that’s why life is hard on earth its just to test our faith and believe in God, and when we succeed look at what he’s gonna reward us for,,, sob7anallah,,,

asmonet's avatar

And….just where is that written?

Designer's avatar

they are the words of god asmonet,,,

watchman220's avatar

uhm….where is that written? Which god wrote that? I never heard such nonsense before.

fireside's avatar

There is a reference to green pastures here

From what i can find, the levels of heaven are taken from this passage in 2 Corinthians 12:

Although there is nothing to be gained, I will go on to visions and revelations from the Lord. I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know—God knows.

I never heard it before either

watchman220's avatar

I think @designer was a little more loose with the interpretation. Not so much a strict interpeter of the Word of God…

Green Pastures is not a reference to heaven…it is simply alluding to peaceful and verdant pastures. The third heaven is assumed to be the place where God dwells…the other two heavens are space…and then our sky…most theologians believe this about the heavens.

Truth be told…it does not say that we will go to heaven exactly…
Instead at the end of this age. Jesus comes back and the dead in Christ rise first to meet him and then those of us ‘Christians’ who are still alive at his coming will also be caught up to meet Him in the air. At this time we will all get new bodies.
After this comes the judgement upon unbelievers on the earth. Those who choose not to receive the gospel will see a terrible time of wrath from God.
After the wrath is over…Christ comes back with His saints. The white throne judgement happens at that point where all the dead are judged whose names were not found written in the book of life. This is called the second death. It is the second resurrection unto damnation for all those who did not live according to faith in God.
Jesus sets up a kingdom on the earth. We as christians will rule and reign with Christ for 1000 years.
After that period is over the bible says, Satan will be freed for a time and he will round up the nations once more to make war against the Living God. Than fire from heaven will come down and destroy the whole host of armies gathered into the place called Armegeddon.
Then a new “heaven” and a new “earth” will come. And the old will pass away.
This is what scripture says about heaven. Look it up in the bible.
The Book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ.
Matthew 24.
1st and 2nd Thessalonians.
The bible is full of information about what the future will look like…including “heaven”

AstroChuck's avatar

Well, you’ve convinced me.

asmonet's avatar

Yeah, I was Catholic. Just, with that rambling post, I dunno man, kind of hard to figure out what the hell Designer was talking about.

And… then the second post kind of creeped me out without actually elaborating.

fireside's avatar

I’m actually kind of worried about this part of what Designer said:
each one of us will have a husband and a wife

Umm, I don’t swing that way, so…..

asmonet's avatar

Yeah, I figured I’d steer clear of that match head.

In your heaven, Designer, can I have a Husband and a Chick-I-Make-Out-With-At-A-Party?

cookieman's avatar

And if asmonet gets her wish…can I watch?

(with my consenting wife/husband nearby of course…ahem)

asmonet's avatar

Sounds like a party.

Designer's avatar

lol i was writing my personal believe, no need to eat me alive,, and what i meant is a husband (for a girl) OR wife (for a guy);P… i have certain believes and faith,, sorry for sharing ;P i’ll keep my mouth shut next time ;P C ya

Judi's avatar

designer;
I think people were just curious what religon taught those things. People are pretty respectful of different beliefs around here (in general anyway.)

fireside's avatar

Yeah, actually I wasn’t sure if you were speaking from a perspective of Eastern Orthodox Christianity or from a Mormon/LDS perspective.

Welcome to the collective, by the way.
