General Question

Would you be willing to tell on yourself here on Fluther?

Asked by wundayatta (58722points) November 1st, 2008

I want to ask whether people could share the greatest hyocricy of their current daily lives. But I’m not sure that we can even recognize these things in ourselves, nor that even if we could, we’d be willing to share them.

So then I thought, how about describing a hypocricy in someone you are acquainted with that seems rather shocking to you.

So I leave it to you. You can answer the silly yes or no question of the title, or you can call someone you know on their hypocricy, or you can call yourself out.

I don’t know what other people would think my hipocricy is, but given my belief in reducting the human footprint on the planet, I should probably get rid of my car altogether (I drive a hybrid SUV), or become a vegetarian.

In calling out someone I know—there’s this guy who is a teacher in high school, and when he’s home, he does a lot of weed, and I think he may be an alcoholic. He teaches the health classes.

Working in a public school and sending one’s child to a private school. That drives me batty.

I am a lesbian in a committed relationship and I have no desire to get married even though I think that those who want to marry should be able to do so, but I don’t think that the term marriage should apply. And, I don’t think it is the governments place to determine who should be able to marry whom, but I would probably vote for McCain or Baldwin.

I need a Margarita…oh…I have one…thank you

we’re all either hypocrites or liars. to call my own on it.. id have to think about it.

I’d be a hypocrite if I didn“t admit to cringing at seeing “hypocricy” five times.

@gail: well damn, girl. Why didn’t you tell me when I could still edit the damn thing? Sheesh! Hypocracy? Hipocricy? Hippocracy? I dunno.

gailcalled's avatar

@Dal; I just arrived. Hypocrisy. I stared at the word too long and finally had to look it up to spell-check myself.

wundayatta's avatar

@gail: well there goes all my street cred :(

gailcalled's avatar

@Dal: But you’ll never misspell it again, right? And your cred. is always good with me.

One of the people I work with responsible for the electric systems, boilers, and BIG pieces of machinery, just called me, two hours before work…because he thought I was the kind of girl who could hook him up with some weed. He also yelled at someone for admitting they used to smoke.

Asshole.

I’ve been known to YELL at my daughter to “stop YELLING”.

Major, major hypocrisy alert: I can’t tell you the number of times I have talked to my children about smoking, and how they should never start, and if they do how I’ll be very disappointed in them. I am a big-time smoker.

cprevite, i’ve done that to my mom, too! i feel so silly 5 seconds later…
augustlan, yeah, i find that type of thinking really backward, and it makes me sad.

When my oldest son was about 18 months old, another child hit him. The mom raced on to the scene, grabbed her son by the arm, smacked him in the bottom and shouted we don’t hit!”

Then there’s those Exxon commercials trying to make us think they actually care about anything but profit.

sacaver's avatar

As a person whose retirement plan includes investments in Exxon, I’m actually kinda glad they have profit. But I also bitch about high gas prices. I suppose that counts me in to the hypocrite column.

I worry about the environment, yet I have 30 minute showers, get driven most places, leave lights on and boil the jug a million times a day, etc etc etc… Though I did attend a rally to stop a pulp mill being built in the north of my state. None of my friends would come with me so I went by myself, and I am proud of myself for that. But other than that, I am a total hypocrite and don’t have the courage to change.

augustlan's avatar

Since my previous answer was removed, I’ll reprhase it: People who are vehemently pro-life, and also support the death penalty. No names this time…can it stay?

yeesh! I just did the “stop yelling” thing, yesterday.
