Club ideas?

Asked by lilaznstar235 (53points) November 4th, 2008 from iPhone

I’m planning on starting a club at school. But I can’t come up with any good ideas. I want a club that can benefit the community as a whole. I also plan to go into the medical field. Any suggestion would be great including club names

@lilaznstar235, if you can’t come up with a good idea, and are time-strapped (start-up clubs take about 20 hours a week of time, or more), you may want to look at starting a local chapter of an existing organization, like the Red Cross, or Ignite, or Planned Parenthood. (Katherine Klem of Ignite has been a friend of my daughters since 3rd grade.)

Pick something you like and stay with it. Leadership is not always about creating a club. You could pick something that is about providing community information. As an example, if you are teen with a chronic medical condition, and get dropped from your parent’s health insurance, how do you get your medication covered?

Or you could do a community outreach project on the dangers of sleep deprivation.

anything else plz
I go to a very competitive school. Things like teen pregnancy apply to noone.
And there is already a red cross club.
Clubs dont need to be medical based

the feel good club. you get a bunch of people to make bracelets, collect toys, ect… and give them to the local children’s hospital.

there is a lot more to planned parenthood than pregnancy. Like STDs, herpes. Eating disorders. Binge drinking. Okay, here’s an easy one: St. Baldricks. Raise as much money as you can and get your head shaved on St. Patricks. My younger daughter raised $900 in three days; did it as lark. Blanket drive for homeless shelter. Friend of my daughter made the paper for collecting 1,500 blankets. Manicure crew for nursing homes. My daughter’s school had an astronomical service requirement.

Is this your junior or senior year?

my junior year
and a lot of things u mentioned such as shaving on st. Patricks day has already been done. I’m looking for a meaningful club not an activity to do. It has to hold up against questioing and stuff

Does your school have a regular coffee house night? Poetry readings, open mic night, student art, that sort of thing? Like once/twice a month? What about a New Americans Club—doing something special for people who are taking their citizenship test? When I took mine, the daughters of the american revolution did something special. Or how about a club that writes your elected officials each month and gives the youth perspective on issues? That would involve surveying students, crafting letters, perhaps arranging to meet with elected officials.

Working regularly with Family Literacy Center in your area, teaching adults to read. I did that for several years. It was a humbling experience.
Create a club to fundraise for the Afghan School Project, which is a Canadian program, but so incredibly on point.

yea our school has coffee house night and all that stuff u guys mentioned already. Why does everyone think of the same thing?

AlfredaPrufrock's avatar

Because you should be thinking about this yourself. Leadership is about inspiration.

Not to be mean, but you can’t overachieve your way through everything. It’s okay to be a hard working ordinary.

Also not to be mean but being hardworking ordinary won’t get you very far if ur go to the same skool as me. Everyone is a hardworking ordinary to start off with.
