What exactly does 3G mean? How different is the new iPhone 3G from the old iPhone?

3G is att’s newest network for wireless internet, replacing their EDGE network. The new phone can use this network, and also has GPS capabilities.

Stands for 3rd generation. 2nd generation was GPRS.

JHoller is correct. It’s the new network. It’s confusing because usually when talking about Apple prodcuts, Magnus is correct. Apple fans usually refer to a product by its generation (I have a 3rd Gen iPod). However, in this instance, it is the network that the phone uses to reach the Internet.

it means they worked out all the problems that people encountered with the previous iphone.

the generation just means its better technology, less kinks :)

app store works with 1st gen iPhone as well, though.
