Fun activities, places to go in SF that I may not have explored yet?

Asked by emilyrose (2272points) November 9th, 2008

I love my San Francisco life, but realize that there is so much here I am not taking advantage of. I tend to stay in the same neighborhoods and go to the same bars and restaurants. I live in one of the most amazing cities in the world. What am I missing? I want to try something new in my own backyard! It can be restaurants, museums, activities, secret nooks, etc. What have you discovered to be a hidden (or not so) gem of our gorgeous city? For example, I have never been to the Exploratorium but I bet it’s a blast for a day.

Exploratorium is fun…My personal favorite is Angel Island….love the ferry ride out and it’s a very scenic place. Nice place to bring some food and have a picnic. Lots of deer running around….beautiful sights and lots of scenice areas to take pictures.

My wife and I love going down to the Sutro Bath ruins to watch the waves (and sometimes we bring a beer or two). They’re next to the Cliffhouse which is also a very nice meal.

Great question (and followed)! I moved to the bay area almost three years ago. Once you get through all the touristy stuff, it can be hard to know where to explore next, but I’ve found myself consistently thrilled with the random little adventures I’ve had in and around San Francisco. I can’t wait to see what people decide to share.

Most recently (yesterday, in fact), I went on the first SF Photojojo Photo Safari. About 85 people got together, walked through the Mission district, and took photos of the amazing murals painted all over the walls and alleys. It was a great way to explore the Mission and meet some interesting folks.

There are a couple more photo safaris planned for the coming weeks, and I think they’re going to be in different places each time. If you like taking pictures, even with a point-and-shoot, it’s super fun.

Fun activity: BATS Improv!

I’ve watched plenty of improv, and this is the best I’ve seen.

@trusting—yes seeing comedy was definitely on my list! I have done some of the things folks have suggested, but not all. Keep em coming!

And Shilolo—come on, we’re buds! You have to share! You can PM me : )

kind of unrelated, but I have been telling Ben that we should have a fluther picnic in San Francisco so we can all meet. Do you think that would be fun? If so, I may start bugging him about it : ) Or is it better kept a mystery?

I’d love it. It’d be fun. Would love to meet y’all.

@emilyrose, Love that name. I think that deserves consideration. I couldn’t come in fear of being silenced forever by some rouge control freak!
