What are your thoughts on Playboy or Girls Next Door?

Asked by Comedian (1123points) November 10th, 2008

Personally I hate it. This is what I wrote to them.

This is one of the most degrating magazines. My sister is watching your show “The Girls Next Door,” and you are holding auditions. Why in the freaking world do you lot expose women like that? That is just awful! You should be ashamed.

The Girls Next Door is a travesty amongst television

I don’t see what is so wrong with Playboy. The human body is natural, it shouldn’t disgust anyone. Those women choose to pose for the magazine, so no one should question their decisions.

It sickens me that we live in a world where murder is more familiar to people than their own body. The average person sees 10 million murders by the time they die, whether it be through news, television, or movies. Yet if a nipple slips out of a dress during the Oscars, people are getting their asses sued.

Comedian's avatar

@Enzo: I don’t know how many of their bodies are natural.

I hate Heftner humanistic/hedonistic potrayal of woman as “bunnies” as some kind of objects it’s just filth to me, he’s a pervert and those girls are poor lost souls who can’t see beyond this , they’re all spiritually blind.

EnzoX24's avatar

@Comedian, I’m talking about the human body in general. I know that image sets a bad example for women, but its a choice they made.

@seVen, Just because of the things they do doesn’t make them less human. I’m not advocating every woman goes out and poses for Playboy, but for God’s sake some people treat them like animals.

Comedian's avatar

@Enzo: And that’s awful that they treat them like that. I don’t know if you are a girl, but what kind of an example would you be setting if you paraded around on Tv and in magazines in the nude (in my opinion) in grotesque positions?

EnzoX24's avatar

No, I am not a girl, but I know many girls who share my opinion. We hold sex up on such a high level, it has gotten to the point where some people can’t embrace it themselves. If we were to actually accept human sexuality for what it is, then we wouldn’t be afraid of things like these.

seVen's avatar

@Enzo: I wonder if you’d love to see your mom, aunt, sister at one of playboys magazine, movie, etc, just as those people could be your relatives they are someone elses, their choice isn’t just theirs, their families suffer for it later on for it with much broken hearts and shame, there’s nothing human exposing yourself like that to the world.

EnzoX24's avatar

Of course their parents would object, but no one can tell them what to do and what not to do. Most of the time these women keep it a secret from their families, but sometimes their families accept it as their choice. And if a father is looking at a magazine and sees his daughter is he any better than her for looking at it in the first place?

willbrawn's avatar

I think the show “girls next door” is funny. Bridget is my fav.

Comedian's avatar

@Enzo: Some of their parents actually make them try out.

poofandmook's avatar

Hey, you want to know something? Nobody twisted any of their arms to do any of this stuff. If they want to put themselves out there to be treated like animals, so be it. By the time they reach the level where they’re on syndicated TV, they’re probably past any excuses like “I need to support my children” or any of that BS.

psyla's avatar

Playboy tries to paw the line between an informative men’s magazine and a triple-X rag. C’mon Playboy! If you’re going to be X-rated, be that way & quit it with the blurry pictures! As if porn is an everyday public experience! Hey, wait, the way some girls dress, I guess porn is a public everyday experience.

generalspecific's avatar

Playboy, I don’t have such a grudge against, because you have to be 18 to buy it anyway, and it’s just not such a bad magazine.
That stupid tv show is absolutely terrible. Young girls see that, my baby sister sees that. I can’t believe they would put that shit on tv. Apparently they want kids to think that you can be sucessful in life as long as you keep your vajayjay all nice and shaven and bleach your hair a ton.
Highschool diplomas? Forget that. Those are for squares.

Knotmyday's avatar

I love them both. Playboy is a wonderful, artistic medium for displaying the beauty of the female form.

Aren’t women beautiful?

Comedian's avatar

are you a guy?

gailcalled's avatar

NO, he’s a cute dog named Darth Woofer, with a hat that is slightly too small.

stevenb's avatar

I don’t think we have a right to judge other people for wanting to be in Playboy. If it makes them happy, great, good for them. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it, or turn the channel.
I think the show is terrible, but just because it makes them look, shall I say, not so smart. I turn away from it though. I have tried to watch it, but I get annoyed to much. Good for them though if they’re happy.

seVen's avatar

@stevenb so just let them influence other generations with pervertion because it makes them happy,..and hey killers kill cause that makes some of those psychopaths happy too so hey let them righ? where’s your logic?

EnzoX24's avatar

@seven, since when is sexuality on the same scale as murder? I understand concerns about womens’ rights and discrimination, but I cannot believe I exist in a world where sexuality is a crime. This is human nature for fuck’s sake. One of humanities most rimal instincts has been blown way out of proportion by both the media and religion.

stevenb's avatar

@seVen, gimme a break! Parents can teach their children right and wrong, and the ability to choose. Aparently you’d like to take that freedom away. You sound like a nice open minded person. Murder is not even close to posing nude. If you don’t see that, you have a serious problem. Seek professional help.

Nimis's avatar

Playboy actually has a lot of good articles.
I’m not being sarcastic. What’s the opposite of a tilde?

Their body type is a little typical. Read: yawn.
But I think they’re slowly moving away from the obvious implant look.

And while it’s not the healthiest example for young women,
neither are all of those fashion magazines that girls eat up.
The image of women in media, in general, is pretty fucked-up.

poofandmook's avatar

isn’t seVen a bible thumper? [ignore button]

psyla's avatar

I think it’s impossible to standardize beauty. Everyone’s got their own little anatomical favorites that they prefer. TV tries to slam a standard vision of beauty down everyone’s throats. If we all followed what TV tells us to believe, noone would get married. I think TV is trying to dictate everyone’s standard of beauty as a method of population control. Only women who looked like TV models would get pregnant. We also have a secret weapon that makes everyone match TV’s standard of beauty – it’s called booze! Playboy bunnies are so generic, Playboy is boring.

Comedian's avatar

I’m a little worried that I asked

dynamicduo's avatar

No one is forcing the girls into doing what they do. I see it as just another job. Sex trades have always been one of the longest existing jobs. As a girl speaking, I love porno of all types. Playboy and Girl Next Door are simply not my preferred type. But kudos to those who enjoy it :)

Comedian's avatar

@dynamicduo: Not that it really matters, but….are you gay?

poofandmook's avatar

why do people feel it’s okay to ask insanely personal questions based on NO facts?

Comedian's avatar

I wasn’t asking insanely. I was just wondering because her answer made it sould like she pleasures herself with pictures of girls….sorry. even if she was I don’t really mind. It was just a question. Sorry

poofandmook's avatar

it doesn’t matter what she does, it’s still none of your business.

Comedian's avatar

It was just a question I’m sorry. Forget I said it gosh

dynamicduo's avatar

Poofandmook is completely right in that it’s none of your business. Then again, we’re on a question and answer site, so I am not really offended by your question. However, there are many people who would find such a probing question inappropriate. Due to the number of times you’ve said you’re sorry I hope you have been able to reflect on your action and learn something from this exchange, after all we’re all here to learn something new about ourselves and the world we live in :)

As I am not offended I will answer your question. To me and many scientists, sexuality is not a binary choice (either gay or straight), but more like a gradient from gay to straight. I have been floating around in the gradient all my life. I have been both with men and women. I have loved both men and women. Right now I’m in a long term relationship with a man who I love. We have a very healthy sex life and love sharing what we like with each other, including fantasies and porno. My partner hasn’t had any desire for a relationship with a man, and that’s perfectly fine with me. And he sure doesn’t have any issues with me exploring my sexuality either without or with him involved.

So to answer your question, I don’t really subscribe to a label, but for those who do, bisexual would probably fit closest. I do pleasure myself with pictures of girls. And guys. And all sorts of combinations therein :)

Comedian's avatar

dude you guys calm down. I apologized. Again, I’m sorry can we get on with the actually question that I first posted? All we’re doing right now is making enemies not friends

dynamicduo's avatar

There’s nothing to calm down about, dude, no one’s upset at all :) I was answering your question and giving you a bit of info on the side, nothing more. You’re not my enemy, you’re Comedian :)

Comedian's avatar

well, it feels like you’re sending out negative vibes.

dynamicduo's avatar

You must be missing all the smiley faces :)

stevenb's avatar

We are all on here to give our opinions, Comedian. Most of us don’t mean to give offense. That is the hard part of conversing with people like this. You can’t see our faces, or read our body language to see that we are just giving our opinions, and not trying to be negative or mean.

Comedian's avatar

ok, but it’s kinda hard not to see some of it as negative like

“it doesn’t matter what she does, it’s still none of your business.”

stevenb's avatar

Some people have different boundaries and areas that they would not ask other people about. You probably have things you wouldn’t like questions asked about, yes? You just may need to excersize a bit of restraint when you go to ask a question, or at least phrase it a bit softer. You’ll get it.

Comedian's avatar

Honestly I don’t really care what people ask of me. I’ll answer them. If they are curious I’ll tell them except like social security numbers and stuff like that lol

stevenb's avatar

I could think of some things to ask you to test that, but the little voice in my head says “No”. I try to listen to it.

Comedian's avatar

no ask me.

psyla's avatar

Have you ever had sex with furniture? With furniture that is, not on furniture… I once knew a guy who claimed he was aroused by certain cars. comedian, do you find any inanimate objects, other than human images, to be sexually exciting… like furniture for example?

Knotmyday's avatar

Do you like tongue-kissing farm animals? Chickens included?

psyla's avatar

Comedian seems dismayed by our bestiality and furniturality questions. Both of which, by the way, are far more exciting than the generic television mentality of Playboy.

Comedian's avatar

@psyla:no
@knotmyday: I’m terrified of chickens and I have not

Keep asking this is fun. lol

psyla's avatar

How about replica Greek Vases or trees?

Comedian's avatar

what about them?

BiZhen's avatar

I hate reality shows in general. A friend wanted to watch “Girls Next Door”, and I saw some of it with her. It seemed quite stupid to me. I do not like “Playboy”, because it prints much Lunatic Left “gou pi”. The nude photos in it are rather tame compared to those in “Penthopuse”, “Hustler”, “Club”, etc.
