How do I find that out?

Asked by nick2008 (15points) November 13th, 2008

I missed getting a nice designer bag as a gift for reward points through my credit card by just five points. I somehow feel that my card issuer gives lesser reward points compared to those that my friends have? How do I find that out?

You might try calling some of the companies they’ve gotten rewards through and ask them about their programs. You could also try asking your friends to show you their rewards catalogues.

Do you have the same cards? Each company, or different card from the company (gold, platnum(sp) etc.) probably gives different reward amounts.

My mom is a pro at getting points on her cards. She calls the companies and tries to bargain and if that doesn’t work she calls other companies with better points and switches her balance. She ends up doing most of her christmas shopping by using her points to get gift certificates and then shops with them. She has worked in mortgage loans forever so when a credit card company calls her she talks to them for hours trying to get better rates and whatever else she can. They rarely call the house anymore. I have tried to get her to go to the local high schools and teach a class because she has first time home buyers that are so far in debt and they don’t even know how to balance a checkbook.
