Do you have a cookbook recomendation?

Asked by Rememberme (661points) November 13th, 2008

I am looking for a cookbook recommendation. I would like the book to cover at least one for the following topics:
*In season food, local to the southeast region of the US
*Very little processed food, homemade alternatives
*Getting the most bang on your budget. eating frugal but delicious food
*Vegetarian/Vegan items as well as meat options
*Instructions to make butter/cheese. Canning fruit/Vegetables ect.

If I had to be marooned on a deserted island with only one cookbook, it would be the Joy of Cooking.

Joy of Cooking or the Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook are great all-around references.

Barring those two, the closest I can come is “Moosewood Restaurant Cook at Home” – vegetarian (with some fish dishes). Recipes can be modified to include meat if you like.

Moosewood is pretty good, and has been around awhile.

I would suggest “The Frugal Gourmet Cooks American”. I believe, if memory serves, that it covers all of your points listed above.

The Joy of Cooking or the America’s Test Kitchen Cook Book.
