How did a "private comment" disappear?

You can delete comments that others have made to you; but not comments that you have made to others. Perhaps you hit Delete instead of Reply by accident?

I don’t think moderators should have control over Private Comments, but I don’t know whether they can.

I have some missing from my account also, and I did not delete them. Moderators can’t do anything with your private comments, but the owners can.

[mod says:] I can explain this. Neither the mods nor the admins have had anything to do with the comments disappearing. Some of mine were not there too. This is because the comment was from someone who got banned. When they get banned, the system prevents the comment from going through probably because it can’t run the request since technically the user doesn’t exist anymore (or isn’t allowed to use the site’s features anymore). We had a couple of bannings today (jean and americun are the ones you might have noticed) and they seem to have sent a lot of people PMs right before the banning. I assure you that you aren’t missing out on anything heart warming.

@PnL Outside of today’s happenings…..I have had a received/read message deleted. I don’t know if it can only be done by certain moderators. It was a, uh, colorful message to say the least.

@PnL thanks for clearing that up! The commnets that went missing in my account were in fact from members who were banned. That explains alot!!

snoopy – i am not sure I understand. You read a comment and then when you later on went to look for it, it was gone? (moderators can’t do this btw. and even if the admins can, i don’t see why they would)

I figured that might have been the case when I saw the question, then again…I was kind of at the eye of that storm. It was on my mind anyway.

Im curious. Maybe someone will pm me. Why were those users banned?

i fear that the mere mention of his alias will cause me to be tarred, feathered, suspended, and all my comments removed. the risk is simply too great….by the way, I asked him what happended, and he said that he “invited someone to ‘f’ them selves”, so he did not tell the individual to ‘f’ themselves, it was an invitation to copulate with one’s self.

Methinks the punnishment didn’t fit the so called “crime”.

So wait why don’t the comments stay there if a user is banned? Can you get the PMs back?
