Do quilts or comforters provide more heat in winter?

I know down is supposed to be insulating, but what about other types of comforters?

If you put another blanket under the comforter, it is highly insulating, and you will be toasty warm. Almost too toasty warm. Great for really cold nights when the window is wide open.

Yes, I have a thin linen and silk comforter that surrounds a crappy polyester blanket and there is a noticeable difference in the amount of heat I retain. Even if it isn’t a feather comforter the layers that are added to the blanket provide extra insulation.

It’s like when homeless people bunch up newspapers in their clothing, they’re mostly filling it with a layer of air that helps to keep them warm.

I’ve had crappy comforters, down comforters and a quilt. Of the three, I liked the down comforter best for warmth, but the quilt for the ‘weight’ of it. We use a wool and or a fleece blanket underneath, but the biggest factor for warmth in our bed is fleece sheets (not flannel, fleece). Heavenly.

I have a down quilted comforter. It’s generally too warm for me, even in winter, but I’m happy to have it!

Ok.. first.. a quilt.. is a comforter that is sewn through from one end to the other… a down comforter on the other hand features a baffle… called a baffle box a high quality one will be made of solid fabric a cheap one netting.

A baffle box will allow the down ( I hope its high quality white hungarian goose down or even better Siberian) ... it will allow the down to loft.. the more air.. the more expansion.. the more heat it can retain.

Dont be scared by that word.. you probably have a heavy down comforter made of more feathers then down.. let me guess quills.. poking you… if you want .. hit me up with a private message I will point you to a link [Link removed by Fluther].

If you mean other types of comforters… we have ones filled with: Silk, Cashmere, Wool, Lyocell, Polyester… lots of choices, lots of different budgets and needs.

I dont think I can post it here on my first answer.. or will it be screaming SPAM? I’ll check back and see if they toss it out.. hope they dont.. because those are the best down comforters available… seriously… no joke!
