Why doesn't this work?

Asked by queenzboulevard (2551points) November 17th, 2008

Command + Delete always deletes a whole line, or even one word sometimes. But in Adium’s IM windows it doesn’t. You can hold option+delete and it will delete words, but command + delete doesn’t delete the whole line. Is there a way to make that work?

I’ve found IM programs have their own program-specific shortcuts for text manipulation that are usually similar to standard ones, but differ slightly between programs.
For example Command+Delete does nothing in Mercury Messenger either. I usually just do Command+A then delete.

command+delete is global for delete. like without a warning.

Keyboard shortcuts are a funny animal. Globals can be overridden per application, things like javascript in web pages can keep them from working from browser tab to browser tab, and depending whether it’s a true cocoa app or not, shortcuts may not even work at all.

If you think this is confusing, try using linux for a desktop about 5 years ago.
