Every time I lie down my tooth is killing me. He replaced the filling 2 weeks ago. My husband is frustrated with me because I won’t stay in bed, but it only hurts when I lie down. I have been taking Motrin for 2 weeks. Any midnight cures? (My husband would be even madder at me if I got drunk, so don’t suggest that) HELP!!!!!
Oh man, now it’s starting to throb sitting up! Augg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When my teeth hurt, I chew raw mint, but that is cause my teeth are riddled with cavities and holes and I can’t afford the dentist. I know raw tobacco can help with some types of tooth aches, as can peppermint (raw).
Cocaine can help too, that ales many, many deep body pains (I don’t mean go snorting a pound of it, I mean a small little snuff, also, I am not recommending it, due to the legal complications, however the usefulness as a numbing agent is true.)
I also employ ice, my very favorite!

ice would totally kill right now. I wish I had a mint plant! Just 6 more hours. I am just hoping it’s a gum problem and he doesn’t say I need a root canal!

root canals really are not that bad, they sound worse than they really are IMO…..
Try one of these, they might actually work…..otherwise you can drive to a 24h drug store and buy some anbesol.

I have no answers for you, but I sincerely hope you feel better soon! :)

Oregano seems to be the best quick fix.

Oooh. So sorry Judi. I hate going to the dentist because I have genetically crappy teeth, just like my dad’s side of the family. Really soft. Sounds like a root canal may be in your future.

cheebdragon
I respectfully disagree with you about root canals not being so bad!

I tried oregano. No good. I hope it’s not a root canal since I just paid for a porcelain inlay filling to replace the old 25 year old one. It is i an area where I had gum surgery a few years ago. I wonder if the problems with that are resurfacing. The pain comes and goes in waves. I’ll lie down and think I’ll get back to sleep then it is excruciating. I hate all the different visits for the root canal, then the crown. I also have crappy dental insurance, but I guess I should be thankful that I can afford to go to the dentist. The poor people on cheebdragon’s link, that are just trying to deal with the pain because they can’t afford a dentist. It’s tragic. I wonder if Barak’s national health care plan will cover dentistry?

—My dentist put some Anbesol on my gum’s and then injected Lidocaine before my root canal, i couldn’t feel my face for 6 hours…...
and when i left the dentists office, I was ready to get my nose pierced just because i knew it wouldn’t hurt that day, lol.—

If you get a root canal, get it from a dentist that only DOES root canals. Your regular dentist will say he could do it but don’t use him.

I’ve had several. And they were nothing.

The dentist is a really good friend. He always refers out root canals. He is a great guy.

Good luck, Judi. Hopefully it will be something simple.

Don’t forget to let us know what the deal was, Judi! I hope you’re not in too much pain.

Judi's avatar

I wish it were simple! I have to go back in at 11:00 and get a root canal ;-(
At least it was the day the root canal expert was in and at least he gave me a shot so it doesn’t hurt right now. He also gave me a Valium so I don’t have a panic attack. (I hate dental work.) Now hubby has to come home and drive me back. UGG!

tonedef's avatar

Oh, no! Well, as a two-time veteran of Root Canals, let me just say, it doesn’t really hurt. It’ll be blissful following the pain that precedes it!

Judi's avatar

I don’t recover from this kind of trama well.

Hugs to you, Judi.

I came too late to be of any help to you, but for future readers: Oil of Clove works really well.

so I had the root canal. When my regular dentist came in (when the root camal guy was filling it back up) The root canal guy said something to him that I didn’t understand. All I understood was when my dentist said said, “Wow, if that had gotten to her heart she would be dead.” Since Tom is my friend he came out to check on me while I was making my appointment for the crown. he said I had (I think he called it) a pulp stone. It was blocking the blood to my tooth and could have broken loose and lodged in my heart. I’m glad I had enough pain to get my butt in there! Thanks for all the morale support. I’m going to go sleep off this Valium now.

How horrible; glad you’re all fixed up – sweet dreams.

Good night and feel better!!

augustlan's avatar

Thank goodness it’s all taken care of now! Hope you recover quickly.

Did I say I don’t recover well from this stuff? That was an understatement! I ended up at 47 years old developing a penicillin allergy! I was 4 doses in before we realized what was going on. Hives, barfing, headache, total yuck! I’m better now. Only a few hives to show for it., but that was no fun at all. I Earned a little empathy for the chronically ill. I couldn’t imagine feeling like that every day. I am Thankful I feel better now. Thanks for all of the advice and concern, Happy Thanksgiving!

Glad you’re better…you truly have something to feel thankful for today : )

What was that recent question about not feeling joy if you haven’t felt sorrow? Now you can really enjoy your health since you definitely experienced the opposite! Happy Day, Judi!
