It depends on the preparation. If I’m doing hickory-smoked chicken with a BBQ spice rub, there’s nothing better than homemade BBQ sauce.

If I’m doing an oak-smoked lemon-pepper chicken, no sauce is necessary.

Too many grilled chicken options to go into more detail, but you get the idea.

It must have marinaded in BBQ for at least three days or I will die, meaning: I enjoy it in BBQ. Or perhaps I enjoy the BBQ and not the chicken?

I make my own bbq sauce, and we like it both ways around here. Yummy, is all I can say to it really. lol I love so many different flavors for it.

@jt: if you apply BBQ sauce before grilling, don’t you find the high sugar content in the sauce burns quickly?

@dave,I never under any circumstances use sugar of any kind in my sauces. I have made my sauce and given it to family and friends, and now they want nothing else. Can’t be that bad huh?

Depends on what I’m serving with it. In the summer I like to marinade the chicken, grill it and serve it with a nice tossed salad.

No. Not a fan of the BBQ sauce.

I like to have my options open- often, I don’t add salt, butter, spice, etc, until the final dish, so that in case a part of my plan falls through, I can change my mind.

@shandling21, that is an interesting way to cook. I make my own spices, and add them in the beginning of the cooking, and throughout the cooking process.
