What's the best way to go about becoming a CNA?

Asked by simone54 (7629points) December 2nd, 2008

I’m about to start taking a classes to get into a Nursing School. I think being a CNA will be good so I can get a job doing that while I’ll go to school.

My mom is a nurse for an NHC nursing home. National Health Care. She says her company has free CNA classes because they have such a demand for them. Then they will place you in one of their hospitals or nursing homes. I would try contacting nursing homes, hospitals, and home health services to see if they offer classes.

I am doing the same thing. At our nursing school they have a CNA program that is only about six weeks so I am doing it in the summer. Just be wary of crappy programs because my sister-in-law did one at a non-nursing school and it ended up taking her a year and a half.

Both ideas are good. Also check your local hospitals for how much nursing school you need to complete before being employable as a nursing student. Student nurse jobs would provide much better experience as prep for school and professional work after graduation.
