The wierdest thing just happened and I'm freaked out?

Asked by Judi (40025points) December 7th, 2008

I was chewing some Orbit gum and having a great time when all the sudden it started to melt. It turned into some slimey stickey stuff in my mouth. Is there something wrong with me or with the gum? I felt like some sort of alien!

How long were you chewing it?when I’ve chewed 1 stick of gum for an extended period of time, it brokedown to mushy, slimey gunk.

@eambos;
about 10 minuets.

Maybe the batch of gum wasn’t mixed thoroughly? The last time this happened to me, it was at least 45 minutes of chewing.

Most likely, you just got a bad stick/batch of gum.

But hubby ate out of the same batch with no problems.

It sound like it is the gum not you judi. It might have been sitting on the shelf to long.oh I see that your hubby had the same batch so the bad gum can’t be it. maybe you have more acid in your mouth, or maybe it is the food that you have eaten or a drink that you drank?

My mom has this gross thing that happens that by the time she’s done eating her soup it’s all thin and runny. It has something to do with her saliva. I don’t want to turn into my mother! YIKES!!!!!!!!

Is your breath particularly dragony at the moment?

@judi I would talk to your denist or dr. about it. It sounds like your salava. It maybe heritity. sorry to say.

The funny thing is that when the gum went soggy the mint got more intense.

Were you eating something, like say, potato ships or peanuts? That’ll help gum go south real fast….

Judi's avatar

Nope, just fluthering and talking on the phone (And unable to chew gum at thee same time , obviously!)

rossi_bear's avatar

it must be the salava then.the mint came out because of the gum wnet bad so the mint came in stronger.

I really, really doubt that your saliva has anything to do with it. It’s not like this happens to every piece you’ve ever chewed. It’s a one time freak occurrence, and there is no reason to worry.

It must be the gum. I somehow recall having the same experience once or twice before. Maybe it was exposed to some environmental element that chemically changed the mixture? Yucko!

My family has had the same experience with a different brand, that had a kind of hard outside coating on the gum. It only happened if the gum was warm prior to chewing it.
