How do I replace a damaged passport?

Asked by sjg102379 (1245points) September 1st, 2007

I just accidentally washed my passport in the washing machine, and I think that it’s too damaged to use any more. I went to the State Department’s website, but the FAQs only seemed to address renewing expired passports, or replacing a lost passport. Anyone know what the procedure is for damaged passports?

I would think its the same as replacing a lost passport.

No, there’s a whole set of forms for a lost passport, about how you lost it and where you lost it and stuff that doesn’t apply to a washed passport.

According to the passport website if your passport has been damaged you have to apply for a new one in person. Try going to a post office they should be able to help you.

Don’t try to use it while it is damaged unless you like long hours answering questions over and over.
