Do you wake up or open your eyes first?

interesting question… I don’t really wake up until my eyes are open, and even after that sometimes ;)

simultaneously I’d say…

I always wake up (at least partially) before opening my eyes.

I wake up before opening my eyes. I often lay in bed with them shut even after waking them up hoping to nod off a bit again. If it is the weekend, I can have what at least feel to be very long hazy periods where I’m awake, and I know I am, but I’m also drifting. I could open my eyes at any time, but why would I? It’s so nice.

I’m pretty sure waking up isn’t as much of a boolean as you think it is.

I’m awake first…then, like Empress, I lay there for a while if I can before I open my eyes.

I definitely wake up first. Most mornings, I am aware of where my covers are and what the temperature in the room around me is before I open my eyes. Often times I just reposition myself and go right back to sleep without ever opening my eyes. Of course, I could be dreaming that.

I’m sorry. I was just laughing at the thought of someone 1st opening their eyes and then subsequently lying there (asleep) for several more minutes before all of a sudden “Oh! I’m awake!”

I vote for waking up happening 1st.

Jsc: It is really funny! My SO is like this. On the rare occasion that I’ll wake up before them, I’ll wait for them to open their eyes/wake up. But if I ask them a question immediately when they open their eyes, they won’t react right away. I think it’s ‘cause they’re not quite awake yet.

I’m quite the opposite. I always joke that I have an old person’s eyes because they’ll get tired before the rest of me does. And they’re the last part of me to wake up too. (Mind and rest of my body is awake before my eyes want to open up.)

Though how do you judge being awake? The only way you can really tell I’m sleeping is my breathing pattern. Because otherwise, you can ask me a question while I’m sleeping and I usually will answer. My eyes are closed. But my eyes get tired easily and are often closed?

I wake up before my eyes open. Thats like EmpressPixie said when you can lay there awake and aware, but still dreaming, knowing you could open your eyes and end the dream at any moment. But why?
