Do the new Apple In-Ear Headphones work with the iPhone?

Asked by derekpcollins (281points) December 9th, 2008

I can’t seem to find any conclusive information as to wether or not the new Apple In-Ear Headphones work with the iPhone. The website doesn’t show them as being compatible with the iPhone, but I can’t believe that they wouldn’t be. Are only certain features compatible with the iPhone? Does anyone know? I have the 1st generation iPhone—I’m not sure if that makes a difference.

the audio will work – the little inline remote won’t.

@Lightlyseared: Do you think the microphone will work for phone calls? This AppleInsider post seems to suggest that it will, but the volume controls will not.

I think I’ve found the answer to my own question on Apple’s website in a Support article titled Compatibility of wired headset models with iPod and iPhone models. It says that for the iPhone and iPhone 3G, “Mic and Center button supported; volume (+/-) buttons are not supported.”

So it looks to me that the only feature of the In-Ear Headphones that won’t be supported by the iPhone is the volume control, which I could live without.
